The exchange rate of the Rupiah against the US Dollar (USD) fluctuated in trading today, Monday (27/11). Rupiah opened lower at the level of Rp 13,509 or slightly weaker than the close of trading yesterday at Rp 13,504 per USD.
Quoting Bloomberg data, Rupiah still continued weakening after the opening. Noted, the exchange rate had touched the level of Rp 13,517 per USD. Currently, the Rupiah is at Rp 13,415 per USD.
Previously, Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Agus Martowardojo noted that the Rupiah exchange rate against the US Dollar (USD) weakened by 1.63 percent to Rp 13,528 per USD in October 2017.
The weakening is one of them caused by external factors, namely the selection of the Governor of the Central Bank of the United States. "The USD strengthened globally as a result of the financial market response to the dynamics of the central bank's nomination process," said Agus at Bank Indonesia Building, Central Jakarta, Thursday (16/11).
Agus continued, rising expectations of interest rate hikes, and tax reform plan in the United States also boosted the strength of the US dollar. As a result, the strengthening of the USD also occurs in some other world currencies.
