5 Key Benefits of Custom Plastic Molding

in #manufacturing6 years ago

Custom plastic molding is perhaps the most preferred method of plastic parts manufacturing. In this method plastic is heated and then poured into a mold. It takes the mold’s shape and hardens. This method requires a certain precision and skill by the person setting the molds. There are some clear advantages of custom molding.

Efficiency: Compared to traditional methods, molding is much more efficient. The process in a set assembly ensures that a fairly large number is manufactured in a matter of minutes — a fraction of the time that is taken without a mold involved. An automatic process is obviously faster and more efficient. In addition, since the work is all done by molds on an almost automatic basis, human errors or tardiness is removed from the equation.

High strength: To be molded a plastic has to be quite tough. This is usually achieved by adding fillers to the composition. The end result is a plastic that is very high strength. The fillers increase the density of the plastic structure. This will not easily bend or break. This is why many premium plastic products are molded plastic.

Accuracy: Plastic holding allows us to create a very specific and accurate design with plastic. Without molding, plastic can be tricky to work with. But molds can be designed as almost anything and the plastic takes the resultant shape. Tools like CAM and CAD has further helped us to create designs with very subtle detailing, which can then be manufactured with almost pinpoint precision. Moreover, the assembly process ensures that each piece has the same accuracy and their are no discrepancies in a batch.

Customization: There are some obvious benefits of customization. It allows you to create a unique design for yourself. It is another means of branding your product properly. It helps you to create a unique property.

Flexibility: The machine used to produce molded parts is very flexible and one can change it to suit a different design or colour. The process is quite simple and can be done with little effort. This allows one to make varied designs and products.

Economic: Custom plastic molding may be a tad more expensive in the beginning because of the cost of the machinery involved, but in the long run it is a more economical option. You can mass produce in a short time and hence, achieve economy of scale. There are few chances of errors and hence, wastage is reduced. This means saving in cost. Finally, labour costs in plastic molding are significantly lower, bringing down the cost of production.
