How do you ask “how old are you” in Mandarin?
Since I am young, I always ask “ Nǐ jīnnián jǐ suì?” , to anyone, including adults and elderly people.
However, it’s wrong !
“Nǐ jīnnián jǐ suì” actually is only for kids, which “jǐ” ( how many ) is only asked for number below 10.
So, how do you ask adults about their age? It’s “Nǐ jīnnián duō dā?”
Dà directs translate is “Big”
How about elderly people? You just need to add another two words. It can be “Suì shù” or “nián jì”.
So, please don’t ask my age by using the last sentence. 😉
Good to learn that.
You can use 'cn' as tag also. Try to make full use of all 5 tags.
