Religious beliefs about man's origin

Religion is the faith in which people believe.

Centuries ago, man believed in many different but powerful beings(human or animal). Some believed that there were powerful spirits in rivers, trees, stones and rocks, or on high mountains, which could not be climbed.

In different parts of the world, people worshipped these beings in different ways. For a long time, however, people were unable to find answers to the question of origin. Eventually, they began to think about one God, a supreme being who made everything, including man.

THE BIBLICAL STORY OF CREATION

Long before Jesus Christ came into the world and Christianity became a religion, a set of people, known as the Hebrews, worshipped one God. They were the first people to write down their understanding of how the world began and how man came into being.

The first man to worship one God was called Abraham. His followers also believed in one God, whom they called Yaweh.

Moses was also a follower of the Hebrew faith. He was chosen by God to lead God's people out of the land of Egypt. During this journey. Moses went up a mountain, called Sinai, to pray. There, God spoke to him and gave him the ten commandments, which became the basic laws of the people of Israel .

God spoke often to Moses, and many people believe that he told Moses the story of creation. This story is written in the first book of the Holy Bible, called Genesis. Some people believe that Moses himself may have written the book of Genesis.

The story of the creation tells how God created the world in six days, resting on the seventh day. The story begins:

'In the begining, God created the heavens and the earth'

God created everything by command. Man was his last creation :

Let us make man in our image, after our likeness;and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over birds of the air, and over the cattle and over the earth.... So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him;male and female, He created them.

The story goes on to say that the first man was called Adam, and the first woman was Eve.
