Have you noticed how the media is talking about the incidence of autism or aspergers on the up. Have you thought about the possibility that this is nothing out of the ordinary? Why might you ask, how can this be given the deficits that are brought into children's lives?
You would be correct in wondering this, however at some point in children's lives they become adults. For many of these children by the time they reach adulthood they will have lost their attachment to many of their deficits and they may have a choice either to struggle with them or to use them to their advantage.
Don't be ridiculous you might say? Actually I am not. Out of the deficits scientists may discover autistics have a lot to offer, benefits that neurotypicals can benefit from. Again why? Because autistics aspergers are people who think differently, have whacky ideas, out of the box idea, they don't conform to the norm, whatever the norm is, do you know because I don't?
Take it that the norm is the curriculum you see in schools today guided by the rules that were set in place some time ago. Hopefully, some time in the future the curriculum will have to change to include as the norm children who think differently who can pass on their skillsets to others, those who might be on the neurotypical spectrum.
When we look around the world we do not see a happy one. Too much unfairness, equality for many poverty for many, famine for many, destruction and desolation for many. Is this what we wanted to see in our world? Do we no hope that the world will be more about equality for all where none of the deficits riding around the world exist.
We as a people have a lot to learn. Learning about jealousy because one has more than the other is one thing, creating a world where jealousy doesn't exist can it be achieved?
Only if we can get the whole to think differently do we have a chance.
Listen to the media and we have worries as a species we will not be on the planet for much longer. It is so sad to see a species that is supposed to be intelligent, more than any other that has inhabited the planet live for far less years than other species. If we think about it we have been on the planet for less than 1% of the dinosaurs. That's no achievement is it?
Getting back to reality, we need autistics so the world can learn a bit about humility, give those who have less, who don't have a chance, to have their say in the world.
Yesterday, I went to a what makes a man at Being a man festival.

I found what I learned very rewarding. men speaking about men's rights. There were men there of many diversities. Although one thing that had disappointed me only after I had left the event, did I realise, there was not mention of autistics as being amongst the speakers. Although, no doubt there were autistics amongst them. Perhaps there is a point here, they were not mentioned for a reason, its all about labelling and really doesanyone want to carry around with them a burdenous label especially if it only recognises their deficits?
The time has come for this to change, we are living in the golden age of technology where if we are to be labelled then our labels should be about our achievements and what we can provide to others so they can learn something positive to hand down to the generations after we have long gone since the world we strive to have should be a better healthier and a place full of equality.
This is the beginning of what the Aspie and Me Platform is all about, creating a platform of change within the neuro-diversity industry. The way we can move forward is to understand that within all of us there is an Aspie but there is also a Me and the Aspie and Me story is all about the characters each play in the life of Me. So there is, who is Aspie and who is Me? For you to be able to be aware of how both Aspie and Me can be in your life you are going to have to read both Aspie and Me and the sequel then you can join in the fun of the entirely fiction book in the third in the trilogy.
If we are to survive as a species we need for change to become us very rapidly, we need total acceptance that all of us think differently, that there is no norm. Rules and regulations will have to change to conform to this change if change is to become us.
