Yeah i thought and my method is:

Buy BTC at CoinBase with USD
Start a trade on ShapeShift exchanging BTC for MaidSafe. Plug in my MaidSafe storage address as the receive address.
Send BTC to ShapeShift exchange address
Exchange completes within a few minutes! Easy!
