I went out magnet fishing again today but couldn't park at my original chosen site as the car park was full. Instead, I went to a fallback site and a canal next to a busy road and a football ground. It's not the best area but when magnet fishing those are the sites that give the best finds.
I began fishing at the bridge which is also next to a canal lock and soon began pulling out rusted bits of metal and a large piece of scaffolding pole. Then I hit the jackpot.
I pulled out a 'rider', a bike that is able to be ridden. It's a men's mountain bike and was in full working order so must have only been in the water for a couple of days. It's missing the back breaks and a break handle but it will cost me under £20 to fix. I've checked the local Facebook groups and no sign of anyone posting it stolen and the police don't investigate stolen bikes so if you pull one out it's yours.
From where I pulled it out from I would say it was thrown in from the bridge and fixing the breaks it would sell for £80 to £100.
On the other side of the bridge, I think the is a motorbike or scooter but I couldn't move it and almost lost my grappling hook after getting it to stook on the frame and had to cross to the other side of the canal to pull it free. All the small pieces of scrap are put in my bucket and brought home and when finished you make sure you leave everything clean. Cleaning up the waterways and having fun and a proper workout all in one go is great but also you never know what you will find.
Not a bad find, a small fix-it price and then a nice little profit.
My youngest daughter has claimed it as her bike is far too small for her so won't be selling until after Christmas as I got her a new bike for Christmas last week. Sods Law I found it after buying her a bike.
Life kind of works that way some times, at least she is happy, and will be happier I am sure with the new one.
