When you actually ask people to follow you and upvote your posts, it's more likely to have an opposite effect.

Whereas if you make a GENUINE comment about their post, they are more likely to engage with you and then WANT to look at what you are posting as well. If they like, or find your posts interesting, they may upvote and resteem them and then follow you.
