Macrophotography: close-up of plumeria, the fragrant beauty of the tropics

in #macrophotography7 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemmates!

I haven’t competed in the #macrophotography contest organized by @juliank and @photocontests for a while but I just stumbled upon this nice close-up shot of plumeria from the Canary Islands, Spain that I would like to share with you today.

So what is it this little floral cutie? Plumeria is a beautiful flowering plant that people usually associate with the islands of Hawaii but in fact, this shrub can be found in most tropical regions all over the world from the Central America to South East Asia and Polynesia.

Named after the renowned French botanist Charles Plumier, plumeria comes in more 300 different varieties and countless color combinations. While its distinctive five-petalled flowers make it an easily recognizable and very sought-after plant, few people actually know that plumerias are most fragrant at night to attract the sphinx moths that pollinate them.

@cleverbot do you like flowers?

This is a really beautiful shot of Plumeria @phortun! I love that deep yellow and the accents of pink around it. It’s a plus when you can capture the droplets on flowers!

I like the history you shared about the flower. Plumeria is my favorite scent to buy at Bath & Body Works. When I first smelled the scent I was hooked :D

Thank you so much :) You seem to be an expert on macro photography so I really appreciate your nice words. I think I should try smelling the flower at night as I dont really smell the scent much during the day :D

You are very welcome! Oh thank you but I am such an amateur lol! I am learning more about macro shooting and really want to improve! Oh yes you really should try to smell the flower at night then when you get the chance!! 😉

Clean photo. Interesting insight. My family has a backyard filled with plumeria. Apparently they can be ornery if you don’t care for them properly. My step mother is Japanese and seems to understand them incredibly well, so they flourish. Various colors across 15 or 20 plants. I didn’t know that they are most fragrant at night. Fascinating. Thank ya.

Thank you for your nice comment. Backyard filled with plumeria, wow, that sounds really great. I love these flowers but they are very rare in Europe where I come from.

Pěkný detail krásné rostliny ;-)

A great photo, and a great image to re-join the macro photo contest with. I love the water droplets.
