Today I am going to delve a bit further into my particular macro plan. I use a program called "Avatar Nutrition." Avatar takes into consideration your weight, body fat, weight goal (everything from gaining muscle to fast pace weight-loss), and diet considerations. The most interesting thing about macro nutrition is if you follow it correctly your calories fall right into place. Let me use myself as an example.
My current Avatar macro plan looks something like this...
As you can see, the main three macros are protein, carbs, and fat. Calories are a secondary thought, which is strange because most diets focus solely on calorie consumption. The nifty part about counting macros is that if I were to consume 157grams of protein, 65grams of carbs, and 53grams of fat today then that would equate to right around 1365 calories. NEAT right? The thing I love most about counting macros is that I feel very balanced. I never feel restricted, because I am eating a spectrum of nutrients in order to get my macros in. Honestly, I could eat shit every day, but as long as I achieve my macros I would still lose weight (I don't, but on those days were my achilles heel kicks in, I won't be SOL because I eat something less than "nutritional").
Finally, let me give you a taste (pun intended) of what I had for breakfast this morning...
3 poached eggs
1 Kodiak Protein Pancake (1/4 c. batter)
YES! I ate a pancake for breakfast...Now it wasn't a "large" pancake, but it was the perfect size to satisfy my pancake craving. Macro-wise, this is what my breakfast looked like...
25.6g protein
15g carbs
16g fat
306 calories
Pretty good protein start to the day. I am left with 131g of protein, 67g of carbs and 29g of fat to consume the rest of the day. One more thing to mention before calling this post done. Avatar also give you the flexibility to customize your macros to another level. What I mean by this is if you like eating more carbs than fat, you can adjust accordingly. I sit pretty close to the middle, sometimes I have to lower by carbs and up my fat because I can't eat low fat chicken all the time, sometimes I need red meat. But now worries because you can adjust your intake for that and still be cool as a cucumber.
