In modern times, women are trying best to look beautiful and they use a lot of cosmetics to adore them. Lipstick is one of the most used cosmetics for women.
But how did this popular cosmetics come about?
For this we have to look back at prehistoric time. Lipstick was first invented 5,000 years ago. From that time the practice of beauty has been going on. But there was no strong evidence about lipstick. However, in those days home made dyes from fruits, flowers and tree sap were used in beauty practice.
Then the aristocratic Mesopotamians used gemstones on their lips. The Egyptians used a mixture of alginate, iodine and bromine to make red dyes. The name of Pharaoh Queen Cleopatra also comes in the history of the evaluation of lipstick. Because she used dark red colour on her lips. However, the name of the lipstick was not yet in vogue.
The term lipstick was first used in 1880. The first commercial lipstick was made in 1884 by a Parisian perfume company. However, there was no use of shiny wrappers or tubes like today. In 1995, the first metal tube was used to market lipstick. The first tube was introduced in the United States in 1930. And after the Second World War, it became very popular among women as a cosmetic item.
The sole credit of making lipstick cannot be given to anyone. However, many historians acknowledge that the ancient Arabian cosmetic expert Al Zahrawi was the first to make thick lipstick.
