"May The Bridges I Burn Light My Way" - Why Letting Go Makes Us Stronger 🌊🌊🌊

in #lovefriday β€’ 7 years ago

You only lose what you cling to. - Buddha

Correct.

We don't lose anything that we let go voluntarily.

Sometimes we only need the courage to move on.

We don't drown by falling into the water, we drown by staying there!

@surfermarly after today's wild surfing session

As in the Ocean so on Earth: Know your limits!

How many hours might you be paddling out there in the storm until you realize that you won't catch any waves today?

The currents are strong, pulling you offshore towards the open sea. There are almost no people in the water for a reason. But you're there. Still.

Realizing that sometimes you can't fight until the very end doesn't mean that you're weak.

It's the exact opposite.

The wiser surfer gives in, not up.

Only the weak cling to a fight they can't win.

Today's session was quite tough.

The wind was blowing strongly from different directions, and while I was paddling out there it even started to rain.

The sky looked like as if it was really angry.

It was a desperate game.

What Mother Ocean has taught me through surfing is that the stronger one isn't the one that fights until the very end.

Real strength lies in the capacity of knowing your limits and having the courage to not exceed them.

Many people believe that it's the other way around. I don't think so.

Giving in doesn't mean that you're giving up. It means that you know your value.

Make sure that you also clearly communicate these values to the people that surround you. It's your life, so you define the rules.

Have you ever had an octopus on your face? It must be terrific - haha!

Whoever doesn't contribute to your happiness: set them free!

We only live once, so why spend our valuable time with anybody that doesn't support us?

Choose the people who have the privilege to be part of your lives very wisely. Challenge them. The ones who really love you will prove it. The ones who don't as well.

Letting go is one of the most liberating acts of all. Enjoy it!

Much love,

Marly -

PS: It is #LoveFriday, steemians (a wonderful initiative hosted by @liliana.duarte)! That's the perfect chance to remember the ones you won't ever let go and to tell these people how much you love them.

Upboat - how cute is that?!
Thank you!!!

It seems that surfing and spending so much time with the nature alone, where you understand how small you are really develops a certain attitude and philosophical view to life. I feel you when you are saying that you must fight, but do not overestimate yourself as it is foolish, and one way or another you can not defeat mother Earth. By giving in just a t the right time you become stronger and next day you give it another try. I used to enjoy my chats with surfers while spending a winter in Bali. Most of them are such nice folks and laid back people, especially when on the shore as in the water many of them are fighters.

"Laid back people" - yeah that's it.
Surfing definitely changes your view on things in life. It makes you both stronger and focussed.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us πŸ˜‰
Btw: nice blog of yours. I'm not sure why I wasn't following you yet. Now I do!

I am sure i will definitely try it once i have an opportunity. If it is not too late to start lol

People get lost on steemit and i am a new guy here too, it also took me quite a while to come over your blog as well :)

Amazing post. So true. One of my best decision is that I do not hang out whit very negative people anymore, even if they were my friends for long time. It is not that I do not like them, it was just a time to move on, because the people who you surround yourself whit are important. If you surround yourself whit people who build you up, who make you grow, who challenge you to be better you are going to be great, on the other hand if you surround yourself whit people who tell you it is not going to work, that you are not good enough you can easily become like them. Miserable and negative. I like your smile on the picture :).

food for thought indeed , not sure about the octopus on the face though, must be a surfer thing lol

Thank you, I'm glad you found it thought-provoking though...

It feels like to me that this life is an experience and burning bridges is part of the experience. I mean how can we learn without making mistakes? Good stuff anyway. Upvoted and RESTEEMED :]

This is a great Idea to promote. I thought to share a little clip that's promoting the same idea that you're expressing withing this post.

Also, great post! Thanks for sharing @SurferMarly :D

Best queto

OoO I really love the first quote! Need to stop clinging! :) Thanks for that.

I am a lover of the sea and all his energies, I love to see everything that comes hand in hand with the surf and your post fill me the day with good vibes. Greetings, my friend, I'll keep track of all your posts =)

I disagree when one is surrounded by garbage like individuals the last thing he or she must do is to let go! Why? Doing so means u allow ur enemies to get away with murder! My choice is I live my way my terms n I will not let go or except my enemies aka garbage. :D

Returning love, and adding an upvote & resteem :)

Always insightful and appreciated. The things we own over time own us. Relationships included. I've come to realize that everyone is equal, not in a society full of rules but rather in a human capacity. We are all alone on our separate journeys. The difference in our equality is that some are more awake than others. Most are trapped within societies guidelines and some can see past this curtain. When I say we are alone it's not to say others aren't in our lives but rather to say alone we are on our awakening journey. The movie that we are the producers of in this reality we call life. Everything is possible through us or nothing at all through us again..... alone. The only thing I would disagree with you on is the "one life" idea. I believe the body is a mere vehicle in this world for our true self which never dies. It cannot. It merely goes on. If one does not "learn" or "fulfill" or "grow" here as intended they will return and repeat until the numbered lives it takes to achieve this lesson and it's fulfillment. Then they will move on to much greener pastures. The Universe is amazing and so much more than we can imagine. The funny thing is we all know all of this already we've just forgotten, been misled, or have been distracted within this realm. "Stop talking and stop thinking then you will know everything."

Sometimes it the best, letting go!! Deep and meaningful post!

I recall this "Let go" by Frou Frou (sang by Imogen Heap) that I think is totally appropriated for this post

Good insights, Marly...

As a surfer, I've always believed in what I call "pushing the envelope." I should probably write a post about that one day, but briefly, this is what I mean...

When it comes to surfing, the only way to learn is to attempt things you've never tried before. However, this needs to be done cautiously. You never want to get off of a two foot wave and suddenly decide to try a twenty footer!

In other words, pick a challenge that is just a little beyond your "comfort zone," and then learn from it. You may get beat up a little, but you're less likely to die. And yes, of course, know when to quit and come in, happy to live to surf another day!

Hugs, dear!
