Heinlein is responsible for that definition, love is putting another's happiness over your own, it is a Lazarus Long quote.

It has worked that way for me, the girls that didn't put my happiness ahead of their own proved to not love 'me', but some false ideal that they had constructed in their own as being me.
And I them, too.
I thought this last one was honest, but, haha, the joke was on me.
I don't blame her, she has to do what it takes for her to be happy, but I sure got hard feelings over the lies.
