Love vs attraction
Love vs attraction
Love is an intense feeling of affection toward another person. It's a profound and caring attraction that forms emotional attachment.
On the flip side, lust is a strong desire of a sexual nature that is based on physical attraction. Lust can transform into deep romantic love, but it usually takes time.
Love
Love is a well rounded knowledge of this individual. It's not based on mere looks alone, or material and emotional gains. Your eyes are well opened, and you know what you are getting into, and you know what you are doing. You can describe the good and bad qualities of this person, and confidently explain why you are so in love with him or her.
You have misunderstandings but you resolve them in a matured and very reasonable manner, rather than dissolving the relationship. You don't try to hide who you are, you accept your mistakes, promise to change, and you do change. -that means Love!
You meet other ladies more pretty than she is, but you don't pay them no mind. You don't betray the trust he has in you. You feel a sense of loyalty, fierce loyalty towards them. Their pain is your pain, and their joy is your joy. --that means Love!
They don't take advantage of you, don't force you to go against your wish, proffers suggestions on how to deal with a matter, and allow you make a choice. - -that means Love!
Respect your privacy, realize you can make mistakes, forgives you easily because they feel empathy towards your situation. Forgives you and never brings the matter up, nor discuss your wrong doings with friends. --that means Love!
Your mouth stinks, they tell you and buy you mints. - -that means Love!
Proud of you and your accomplishments, no matter how little. Never comparing you to another, but will rather seek to bring you up to standards in love. Corrects you with a smile on his face. - -that means Love!
Love is kind, Love endures, love is not jealous, Love is not proud. Love, is more than just a feeling. Love makes a person act in accordance with knowledge, devoid of ignorance, immaturity, stupidity, childishness. . . Love has no time for "silent treatment". It faces the issue head on, resolves it and forges ahead.
When in love, your heart speaks, but your brain listens and assesses. Infatuation fades with time, but love grows stronger with time.
Love is when you look beyond attraction and infatuation, Love, is more than saying "I love you".
Types of love
I think we all go through each stage at one point, but if you want a better definition of the kind of love you give or the kind of love you seek, here are the seven kinds of love according to the ancient Greeks.
1. Eros: Love of the body
Eros was the Greek God of love and sexual desire. He was shooting golden arrows into the hearts of both mortals and immortals without warning.
The Greeks feared that kind of love the most because it was dangerous and could get them into the most trouble. Eros is defined as divine beauty or lust. Eros is mainly based on sexual attraction and it is where the term “erotica” came from.
2. Philia: Love of the mind
Also know as brotherly love, Philia represents the sincere and platonic love. The kind of love you have for your brother or a really good friend.
It was more valuable and more cherished than Eros. Philia exists when people share the same values and dispositions with someone and the feelings are reciprocated.
3. Ludus: Playful love
Ludus is the flirtatious and teasing kind of love, the love mostly accompanied by dancing or laughter.
It’s the child-like and fun kind of love. If you think about it; this generation loves Ludus more than anything else.
4. Pragma: Long standing love
The everlasting love between a married couple which develops over a long period of time. Pragma was the highest form of love; the true commitment that comes from understanding, compromise and tolerance.
It is pragmatic this is why it is referred to as “standing in love” rather than “falling in love” because it grows over time and requires profound understanding between lovers who have been together for many years.
5. Agape: Love of the soul
It is the selfless kind of love, the love for humanity. It is the closest to unconditional love. The love you give without expecting anything in return reflected in all charitable acts.
It is the compassionate love that makes us sympathize with, help and connect to people we don’t know. The world needs more Agape.
6. Philautia: Love of the self
The ancient Greeks divided Philautia into two kinds: There is one that is pure selfish and seeks pleasure, fame, and wealth often leading to narcissism and there is another healthy kind of love we give ourselves.
Philautia is essential for any relationship, we can only love others if we truly love ourselves and we can only care for others if we truly care for ourselves.
7. Storge: Love of the child
This is the love parents naturally feel for their children. It’s based on natural feelings and effortless love.
Storge is the love that knows forgiveness, acceptance and sacrifice. It is the one that makes you feel secure, comfortable and safe.
Defining love can help us discover which kind we need to give more of and which kind we want to receive. If we incorporate Eros, Ludus & Pragma into our relationships and Agape, Philia and Storge into our lives, we will reach Philautia and live a happier life.
Attraction
Attraction is what you see about the person that gets you interested in knowing more about the person. This is commonly known as "Love at first sight". . . It is based purely on looks - How beautiful or handsome the person is, How cute her dimples look, the sparkle in her eyes,, his nice smile, confidence in walking or speech, intelligence, swagger, looks like trey songz blah, curves like bey once blah blah, rich like bill gates blah blah blah. . .
Appearances can be deceiving. An A+ in the looks department "could" be an F9 in the character + manners + brains department. . . You should not fall in love based on appearances. That is a fine mixture of senselessness and foolishness on display. . . We have a lot of Mugus and Magas as a result of erroneously mistaking "attraction" for "love". . .
You meet a girl for the first time, and you say "I love you"
She asks you the reason for loving her, and you say "the way you walk, talk, smile"
You see him in a borrowed car, dressed like wizkid and you fall in love.
She looks like your ex or she reminds you of an ex, and you fall in love.
You see his picture on Facebook, posing with an expensive car, dressed like a bank executive, clean shaven, handsome looking, you fall in love.
without meeting him or initiating any discussion.
Ok. You initiate a conversation, and just 2 days later, you profess love for him, without meeting him yet.
Getting attracted to someone is normal and very ok, but falling in love solely on the premise of that physical attraction is a what? A FAIL!
