Yeap, that was the beginning of this story. I don't know if I can add an adjective to describe that story because I really don't know what adjective suits better for this. But four year ago without hesitation, I would have said that it was a LOVE story.
That was the first email I received from Ant. After sharing some ideas about the subjunctive (he was desperate to get an idea about that). When he asked me, I didn't have any idea about how to explain it. So I told him: "we can google it". And we did. Afterwards, he was sharing Mexican expressions translated into English, like:
Son him = hijole
Don't stain = No manches
What a bad wave= Que mala onda
You take me out of wave = me sacas de onda
It crashes me that she doesn’t answer my calls = Me choca que no me conteste
English speakers don't try to understand those expressions. The translation doesn't make sense at all. But they are funny.
I remember the first time I saw him in the stairs of the university. He was wearing his gray jacket and his flag patterned tie that he used to wear back in those days. At that moment I thought he was cute.
Anyway, I didn't answer his email because I first I saw his email two days after and also my logic was if he wants to have coffee with me tomorrow we can see each other at the University and drink a coffee there... The day I saw him again he didn't say hi to me, the day after that day he ignored me as well. For me was kind of immature because he could have said "Let's have a coffee and talk" we used to get together all the teacher to have "breakfast". I think a week passed by and he talked to me again. "Hey did you get my email" - Yeap not right away, but I didn't answer because I thought we could to here but you have been ignoring me.
That day we decided to go for lunch at Maco in downtown. It was cool to have a chance to talk to him and to get to know him. Later he told me that the invitation was just like co-workers.
Four years have happened after that first date that wasn't a date. A lot of chigaderitas have happened in between those four years and now we are traveling in Southeast Asia. Is this what love stories are about?
