Although perfectly normal, a woman’s period is still seen as taboo or “gross.” Many women don’t openly talk about them because menstruation is considered an “inappropriate” topic of conversation. But what’s even more taboo than talking about menstruating alone? Period sex. A lot of women are ashamed to sleep with men during their time of the month despite the fact that there’s nothing embarrassing it. Here, one woman writes about why people should stop being grossed out by sex while menstruating, both penetrative and oral.
Period sex. Ellen Scott writes via Metro UK about how she doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with period sex, oral in particular, and why people need to stop making it such a big deal. She explains how there’s nothing unhygienic or gross about it, and periods in general should stop being seen as “disgusting.”
Selfless. She also explains how her post isn’t just about getting rid of the taboo that periods are gross, rather it’s also about wanting to make your partner feel good during a time when they’re feeling crappy otherwise. At the end of the day, it’s all about being selfless when it comes to pleasing your partner.
Not gross. ”There’s absolutely, totally, definitively, nothing wrong with going down on someone when they’re on their period. There’s nothing gross about it. Nothing dirty. Nothing disgusting. If it’s not for you, that’s fine. If you don’t feel even a tiny bit sexy on your period, you go ahead and skip oral. If you just don’t like the idea of getting menstrual fluids on your nose, whatever,” writes Scott, via Metro UK.
No excuse. Scott explains that being uncomfortable with menstrual blood is a legitimate reason to not want to do it, but being “grossed out” isn’t. Periods aren’t dirty or unhygienic, and they shouldn’t be considered gross.
Not evil. ”Menstrual fluids are just blood, uterine lining, and regular vaginal discharge. They’re not toxic or pure evil. They’re just something that comes out of the vagina, and are entirely natural and healthy. Nothing bad will happen if these fluids make their way on to your tongue, hands, or face,” writes Scott.
Tips. Scott explains that realistically, things probably won’t get as messy as you think. She offers up tips for giving oral sex while a woman is on her period saying that if she still has a tampon in, you can simply focus on the clit and not have to worry about getting blood all over your face.
Blood loss. ”The average person loses between 30-40ml of blood during a period (meaning over the course of seven days), which is hardly anything. Reduce that time to the twenty minutes or so that you’re going down, and you’re really looking at a few smudges of blood – unless the person you’re going down on experiences a particularly heavy flow,” writes Scott.
Orgasms. At the end of the day, it’s more than just getting over the whole “periods are gross” thing, and making your partner feel good. Orgasms can relieve cramps, boost her mood, and help with any other period related symptoms. In fact, explains Scott, orgasms can even shorten the length of a woman’s period.
Horny. ”Receiving oral when you’re on your period makes the most of all that period time horniness (yes, loads of us are extra turned on around our period time, it’s not just you), and the lingering feelings of ‘is this okay? Is everyone else doing this?’ makes it feel a little taboo,” writes Scott.
Unbothered. To top it all off, period sex is hot, says Scott. Men who are completely unbothered by blood are hot, and they’re even hotter when they’re trying to please their lady. Just because she’s on her period, doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve to have sex too.
Missing out. ”I repeat: if oral sex while period-ing isn’t for you, fine. But if you’re avoiding it because of squeamishness, stigma, or the incorrect belief that periods make vaginas ‘gross’, you’re missing out. Menstrual blood can be wiped off. Orgasms can still be enjoyed when someone’s on their period,” writes Scott, via the Metro UK.
Bloodhounds. If giving a woman oral sex while she’s on her period turns you one, you’re not alone. Men who get off on this are called “bloodhounds,” a very fitting nickname for men who don’t mind a little blood in between the sheets.
Attraction. According to Alternate, before given the name “bloodhounds,” these men were called menophiles. This is the sexual attraction to when while they’re menstruating, and some men actively look out to sleep with only women who are on their periods.
Not for everyone. It’s time that we stop thinking of periods as gross or taboo, and that we start normalizing them. Granted, period sex isn’t for anyone, but how would you know it’s not for you unless you tried it?
You. Have you ever gone done on a woman during her period? Would you consider doing it if someone asked you to? Be sure to share your experiences with us in the comments section below. We love to hear from you.

Good article, thx. I agree, it's absolutely not gross. And what is about having vaginal sex during period? I hope it's not a problem, too... #enjoylife
