What makes life "meaningful"?

in #love7 years ago (edited)

Imagine, you have everything that you need. Enough money, good friends and a healthy social life, no pain in your bones or your heart, a filled up belly and a safe future outlook...
What would you do to make your day great? Is it really the money? Could there be „enough“ money to satisfy you?

I experience sometimes such situations where I am completely in perfect balance between whats in my pockets and what I did with my time. I did a good job and got good money, for example. But there is a certain „lack“ I feel. Some kind of incompleteness. I could now spend this money on something nice, which I deserve, surely. But it can’t satisfy me for a longer time.

But giving care to others without expectations - I mean really and honestly without expecting a reward sooner oder later – touches my soul directly and has a huge impact on my mood during a longer period. That is nothing that I can buy. This feeling inside when I helped somebody - even if he/she will never know about that, connects me directly with the source.

I am not on a mission to teach anybody empathy and altruism. I can only describe how RICH I feel, when NOBODY knows that I did something good to somebody. Because my happiness doesn’t depend on the reaction of anybody - may it be thankfulness or appreciation.

I am just doing what my heart is telling me.

And I just wish more people would do the same…

I think that if you possess all those tangibles, the spirit still craves for the intangibles of life in order to fully feel whole. We are all born with a spiritual craving , only satisfied by spiritual food. Service, Love and a personal relationship with God. Great post.

Very touching. Congrats for your decision in life to help others.

Of course money can change your appearance but it can not change your happiness in life. You may have money than anyone else but are you sure that you happier than them? You have much money, you certainly have a lot of friends. But who is your real friend? Who does always go with you in every situation? Or all of them are abusing you?

If you have too much money, of course you can buy everything that you need, but you only feel happiness at the moment. People feel happiness when they achieve something such as a goal, but if you can make everything happen without even trying or putting in any effort, your life would be boring. There wont be a point of living because you do not need any goals if you have all that money.
