I can't think of anything worse than self-deception. It can really mess your life up.
As long as you continue to tell yourself lies, you'll continue to live an illusion. And what it does is to make your life a mediocre. A shadow of what you're faking.
So, what am I driving at?
Authenticity is very crucial to living a truly complete life. It teaches self-love and acceptance. It empowers you to be yourself always, no matter what.
Being yourself, however, doesn't mean you should be stupid. No, that's not what self-acceptance is about.
The essence, first of all, is for you to love yourself just the way you are. But it goes further than that. It also gives you the drive to be committed to becoming the best of yourself.
The lesson to draw here is this: Don't beat yourself up about your shortcomings and past mistakes. Love and accept yourself just the way you are. Appreciate the way things were and are in your life because these are for good reasons.
Apostle paul said it best in his epistle to the Roman christians:
"...all things work together for the good of those who love God, and to those who are the called according to His purpose. For God knew his people in advance...”
