Love has been misunderstood for so long and l for one am guilty of this crime. I thought love was that fairytale filled with sparkles and a happy ending to match. However life has taught me that love is a sacrifice of oneself for the joy or pleasure of another. Love is giving and not receiving, it does not require reciprocating to exist. A divine example is illustrative of this, God LOVES all men including those oblivious to His existence. So there is a divine order and a spiritual gratification to love if not so God would have destroyed us all.

Love allows us to feel and be charitable with ourselves to others. That experience lights up the inside of our hearts and allows us to glow and experience joy. The next person doesn't need to be giving it back, we have seen how crushes work. Therefore love is that sacrifice or vulnerability for the appeasement of others and in that act is an encounter with divinity that gives solace to our souls. Unfortunately most take love as an exchange but it is far from it, it is philanthropy. What makes Romeo and Juliet such an amazing tragedy about love is the sacrificial nature of the two characters. Their charity to one another was displayed for all to see and their acts of sacrifice were influenced by the other's condition not their own. So love is a one way street, a way for us to let that Godly nature in us resonate and like Him we should never give it expecting to receive back. Though He is perfection and omnipotent, man for centuries have failed to completely honor His love. So do you think man is capable of reciprocating what our hearts have to give? With our marred nature as humans l doubt so!!
