Starry night photography having fun with f stops

Hi all, I've been continuing my experiments with astrophotography using my EOS Canon 70 D and the results are becoming better and much sharper. Here are my latest #longexposure photographs.

I started with the ISO set to 100, f/4 and an 8.5 second exposure for this first shot of the moon and as you can see it is a little blurry and quite blown out.

Next image below was ISO 100, f/4, 43.9 seconds.

Next image ISO 100, f/1.4, 14.9 seconds

The next image settings were again ISO 100, f/1.4 and 17.6 seconds using the Sigma 30 mm lens

Final image settings ISO 100, f/1.4, 16.1 seconds exposure. Again with the Sigma 30 mm lens

As you can see hopefully. The images got progressively sharper at f/1.4 and now it's a case of making smaller adjustments to select particular elements that you want to photograph in the night sky.

I'm having a lot of fun with this and got a couple of clean photos of the moon but they came out tiny like these below?

I don't know what I did there but they were just super small? You can see the craters of the moon if you squint lol

Have a peaceful weekend folks.

Great work. You even got Mars in the first image. (I think that’s Mars – at least, I saw on the news that it would be visible to the right of the Moon this week.) :D

I think you may be right @momzillanc it looks like it's in the right place.

excellent work, astronomy photography is a combination of equipment, technique, practice and a lot of patience, go ahead and you will see how to get excellent photos.

Thanks @srod it's a lot of fun and the images are getting better the more I practice. My next target is to get a good photograph of the Milky Way. I got one already by pure luck. It's not great but a start.

Nicely done! The night sky is fascinating.

It's so dark where we are that the sky looks amazing on a clear night. I might try a few shots tonight.

Lucky you! I haven't seen a good night sky in years.

I save this read for later but a question for anyone. I've tried capturing the stars at night and haven't had any real good success at it because of all the light pollution around my area. However I was wondering if my camera is capable of capturing anything good if I was in a darker area. I'm using a canon t3 with the kit lens.

It should be fine if you can get a long exposure 10-20 seconds.
