I was trying to think of that when I saw your photo. I don't remember doing exactly this for a cityscape (tried it on a landscape recently), but I did a day-night transition picture in Pittsburgh that combined different elements over a few hours. Needs more experimentation. I love the technique, though it's a bit of a grey area for authenticity when it comes to nature photos.
