Can you close your eyes and imagine a majestic horse running across a beach with the sunset on the horizon.
Not if you have aphantasia like me.
Someone with aphantasia does not possess a functioning mind's eye and cannot visualize imagery.
Maybe that's why I never got into reading
Oh, how I heard many praise reading, you just have to use your imagination it's so much better than movies, you get to see the story your own way.
What do I see?
nothing really, I was shocked when I discovered people could come up with a mental images instantly.
I just see darkness, no images, even if I try something simple like a yellow square.
With large strain, I try to combine the elements of a square, perpendicular lines and the color yellow and still I get nothing visual. all I get is thought and the closest I get to an image is a description and this exercise is limited to simple shapes.
If I try to visualize something more complex It all fails as there are so many elements in the description and the short-term memory banks get full.
The piece I used was made with a long exposure shot and some photoshop editing, the original unedited picture is right below.
Thanks for sharing @bitcoinman
This idea is fascinating to me, as I utilize my "functioning mind's eye" throughout the entire day. I cannot imagine (no pun intended) what it would be like to exist without that ability.
I am curious, as an artist, how are you able to visualize and conceptualize your art while still in the process of creating it?
Just a verbal description of the concept, and a lot of times I just freestyle so I create as I go
