Beliefs and cults in the Myths of Cthulhu.
Throughout the relationship cycle of the Cthulhu Myths, initiated by H.P. Lovecraft and continued by his literary Circle, announcements that exist a considerable number of pagan cults.
Its function, in all cases, is truly a saber, an unspeakable wisdom, certain derangements in time, space that allows the access of unimaginable beings to our plane of existence.
Here is a brief review of the beliefs and cults within the Myths of Cthulhu.
Black Brotherhood
International group of necromancers preparing the advent of the Ancients. The Black Brotherhood is made up of people of all ethnicities and genders. Its function is to pave the way of the Ancients, whose awakening is near.
The existence of this infernal brotherhood was denounced in the story: The Dark Brotherhood, written by H.P. Lovecraft and August Derleth.
The Brotherhood of the Beast Entourage of worshipers of the tenebrous Nyarlathotep. They are mainly dedicated to certifying that the prophecies of their founder, Nephren-Ka, are strictly enforced.
The presence of the Brotherhood of the Beast is noticed in the stories: The dream search of the ancient Kadath; The dreams in the house of the witch; The rats on the walls; The dweller of darkness The one who whispers in the darkness; The shadow outside of time and the creeping chaos
In all of them the horrific Nyarlathotep appears.
The Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh
Brotherhood that also worships a Nyarlathotep, although with some discrepancies with the Brotherhood of the Beast.
The group is led by the descendants of the Egyptian priests.
Brothers of the Yellow Sign
Sect which is also known as the Cult of the Yellow Sign
They worship Hastur, that is, the mythical Yellow King of Robert W. Chambers, whose appearance occurred in the story: The yellow sign.
The cult is led by a court of immortal humans from the underground kingdom of K'n-yan.
The cult of the skull
They are also known as the Witches' Coven of Chesuncook.
They worship the sinister Shub-Niggurath in bloody gatherings held near the village of Chesuncook, Maine.
These celebrations culminate in the descent of ancient caverns, where acolytes are received by countless and hungry Shoggoths.
His gatherings were denounced in The Whisperer in the Dark and The Horror of Dunwich
The Shub-Niggurath himself is inspired by two accounts of the previous Cthulhu Myths in Lovecraft: The Great God Pan and Days of Leisure in the Yann.
Cult of Chorazos
Entourage of worshipers of Yog-Sothoth.
The sect was born in the mountains of Romania during the sixteenth century, very close to the bastion of Count Dracula.
With time it was distributed by Scotland and England, where they were persecuted by the Holy Inquisition.
Finally they relocated to the United States, where they still await the awakening of Yog-Sothoth.
Church of Star Wisdom
Nefarious cult that worships Nyarlathotep.
They appear in the stories: The Dweller of Darkness and The Star Vampire.
It was founded in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1844; by the archaeologist and occultist Enoch Bowen.
The sect boasts of possessing an artifact that demands sacrifices in exchange for knowledge.
Worship of the bloody language
Worshipers of Nyarlathotepjó in Kenya, Africa.
Esoteric Order of Dagon
It is the official religion of Innsmouth, Massachusetts. They worship a Dagon, Hydra and Cthulhu.
