Who’s Limiting You?

What’s standing in your way to achieving success? As much as we like to blame external factors, I’ve found that most often we only have ourselves to blame when we hit a roadblock.

We are all where we are in life based on our past decisions. Sooner or later all of us find ourselves in some type of trouble because of poorly made decisions, whether professional or personal.

The good news is that you have the ability to act on that knowledge and make better decisions to expand your opportunities. Don’t let your sense of possibility of wealth be limited by the job or position you are in. Act aggressively to expand your horizons and open up multiple income streams. Start a new business. Draft an actionable Wealth Freedom plan for yourself. In truth, the only person limiting our horizons is you! So stop limiting yourself today.

We all put limits on ourselves without even being aware of it. We tell ourselves that we can’t do certain things because of our age or our geography or our experience. By focusing on the limitations and narrowing our sights, we set ourselves up for achieving far less than we are capable of. Dreaming big and focusing on your strengths will inherently widen your aperture of what is possible. It also builds your self-confidence and passion.

If you want to increase your income, consider what constraints are holding you back. Is it your expertise or educational background? Is it the present demands of your job or other obligations? Is it the environment or level of health that you are in? What will help you to surpass these boundaries and achieve your goal? Keep in mind that you can get yourself out of any situation that you have gotten into. The secret is to tackle the boundaries with focus and clarity about what you are aiming to achieve.

Dedicate yourself to continuous learning and education, which are powerful tools for widening your scope of possibility and cutting down on your restrictions. By aiming each and every day to get better at your given field or area of expertise, you will increase your possibilities. As you continue to grow in your mastery of your skills and your knowledge base, you will instinctively gravitate toward thinking of life in terms of possibilities and opportunities rather than problems and setbacks.

We all are more alike than we may think and have the same odds of success if we work hard. Talent is everywhere, but doesn’t get you anywhere without grit and dedication, which are traits that anyone can cultivate in themselves. Lean into taking action each day and you will knock down you limits even further.

Too many of us write off our own abilities or capacity to learn. We see someone we would like to emulate performing at a high level, but then tell ourselves that we could never possibly do that. We simply aren’t smart enough or we have started too late in life.

You need to flush this kind of negativity from your mind. There isn’t a limited pool of people who are able to accomplish things. Any of us can do it. There are no natural limits on your ability to create ideas and run with your imagination. I make no bones about the fact that I unabashedly believe in human potential for all of us as creators and leaders. I know that we all have a voice to contribute and we all have talents to leverage. The only thing that makes achievers unique is that they put the work in and the time in.

Sometimes you may not even recognize the limits you have placed on yourself. They may be in the form of habits and routines that you have fallen into and grown comfortable with. You might not think that you have time to pursue your entrepreneurial interests because of the constraints on your time. But how much of your time is spent watching television or attending social events that aren’t adding pleasure to your life that you feel obligated to attend? Your schedule determines your priorities and the boundaries on what you can hope to achieve in a given day.

You may well have to vault yourself out of your comfort zone. You may be perfectly happy in a routine that feels productive. You might spend time everyday working on your web presence or writing content or researching investments. There might be other activities, however, that don’t feel as comfortable for you, like setting up informational meetings with contacts or networking. Odds are if something feels uncomfortable for you, it may likely be an activity worth you pushing out of your comfort zone to take on. By getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, you expand your limits and possibilities.

If you really want to open yourself up to new possibilities, you should even put yourself into more situations in which you risk rejection. Many of us shy away from big opportunities because we don’t want to embarrass ourselves or risk looking like a failure. This is most certainly one boundary that it pays off to get comfortable with. If you can tackle new situations with no fear, you will be much farther along than most competitors out there. So keep on submitting your writing and entering pitch competitions and sending out cold communications to potential contacts. By expanding the number of possibilities you pursue with no fear of them not working out, you have better positioned yourself to succeed.

Fear is simply dread of an unknown outcome. Become comfortable with the uncertainty of knowing for sure if a given pitch will work out. You can begin to do this by telling yourself positive affirmations each day that remind you that are a hard-working person of value regardless of the outcome of a particular project.

You may even want to place some positive limitations on how you use your time in order to help you focus more. This is an area where some limits can serve a useful purpose. An example could be adopting a theme each month to focus on in terms of self-improvement, like fitness or a technical skill. Or you might limit yourself to only working on your most important tasks each morning, regardless of the requests for help on other projects that may come in from others. Or you might choose to limit your attention to only check emails at periodic times of the day or only work on a given number of projects at a time so that your focus isn’t needlessly diluted. All of these are strong examples of conscious limitations that can positively serve you.

History abounds with examples of leaders and pioneers who refused to accept the idea of limits for themselves. Don’t give into the negative voices. By combining an optimistic belief in yourself with the willingness to work hard for your goals, there are no limits on what you can go on to achieve.

very inspiring

thank you for your comments!

The old saying goes, "We are all our own worst enemy" and it's so very true. It's easy to blame everyone around you for your shortcomings when all you really need do is look in the mirror and there's your culprit.

Too bad we live in a society that loves to blame everyone but themselves for their failings and shortcomings.

agree completely!

@bigsilver you are 100% right. The most important is to make new decisions today. And not to be acting automatically now because of previous decisions made in the past that you don't even want to decide that today. I am not sure if you notices I mentioned you on my latest post. Here it is in case you did not see it: https://steemit.com/steemit/@gold84/10-great-persons-adding-value-to-steemit , just upvoted your current post, @gold84
