From my perspective it seems that happiness is an attitude.
We can choose to be happy and we can do the kinds of things that bring happiness into our lives.
It's when we are obsessed with self and our own attempts at success that we tend to get bogged down with disappointments or are particularly focused on perceived shortfalls and unmet expectations.
It's by letting go a little and focusing outward from or own selves that the freedom to experience contentment and feel true joy emerges.
True joy comes from celebrating others successes and recognizing how much you already have instead of exclusively focusing on what is perceived to be lacking.
Jesus taught:
"Rejoice, and be exceeding glad."
—Matthew 5:12
God loves us and wants us to be happy. We have many reasons to be happy, even if we don’t realize all of them. One way we find joy is by helping others feel joy.
WAYS YOU CAN SPREAD JOY
Who do you know who could use some joy in their life?
Send them a personalized care package in the mail.How often do you stop to think about your blessings?
Reach out to someone who has blessed your life, and thank the person for his or her example.When was the last time you celebrated someone else’s accomplishments?
Find somebody who doesn’t receive thanks very often, and make the person’s day amazing.

You reminded me of an Italian song that says: "to think you're feel bad, it's to have no respect for those who are worse" ... Sometimes we are too busy with ourselves and by the hectic life, that we do not notice our fortunes, in doing so, we also ignore others who need our help.
One of my favored verses is it rains on the just and the unjust. Hard to
understand. But once you understand it a lot easier to understand.
Yes sir, the mere fact of being alive is already a reason for immense happiness. Sometimes we need to clear the clouds of our mind to realize that the essential we already have, life itself. We can not condition happiness to the achievement of our goals or dreams, we must fully live each breath of life.

You are absolutely right. The path to happiness is more smile and rejoice. There is simply a thrown good smile to the passerby, makes him happier and he starts the same smiling prtochey, making them happier and kinder. This was taught by Jesus to give smiles and joy that would make the kinder of all. Thank you for the interesting post.
Thanks for the encouragement. There is no circumstance that we can find ourselves in, no matter how awful, that can eliminate joy from our lives, if only we look for it. God works all things for the good of those who love Him.

I have learnt so much from this post. Am so grateful to @gavvet, for these wonderful lessons you have brought my way these past days.
As my own humble contribution, I believe we should make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and you'll soon find many others around you. Truly appreciate life, and you'll find that you have more of it.
The important questions we should ask ourselves daily is Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone's face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.
Also,Happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy. There's going to be stress in life, but it's your choice whether you let it affect you or not.
As a final word, If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.thank you.

Feeling good for someone else’s success helps you generate the same feelings you need for your own accomplishments. So put yourself in the other’s shoes. Revel in their accomplishments; think of all the hard work that went into it. Celebrate their success and know that soon you’ll experience the same thing for yourself. Apply the good feelings to your visions for a brighter future.
For me, helping others is top priority. Being able to provide others with a path towards success makes me feel valuable. Helping others is one of my greatest joy. The more I help people, the more I help myself. This can be small or large, but they are all important.
“I enjoy being part of the success of others. Seeing their joy gives me deep fulfillment and I am poised to do more.”

And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

I have noticed from experience that some of the happiest people have very little, or maybe even nothing at all. Some of the most miserable people have all the things in the world.
Focus on yourself and never compare yourself, your relationships, your job, or your financial situation to anybody else.
Realize what you have, appreciate it, and take care of it. You may not have the best of everything, but you are alive and you probably have more than most people do. Consider writing down 3 simple things in your life that you have that you are grateful for.
Choose to focus on what you have and not what you don't have. That's all that truly matters. When you have your focus right, you'll surely be fulfilled, irrespective of the amount of things you have.

When we are not grateful and contented for what we have, we tend to complain, and that isn’t good for anyone. For example, even though the Lord had delivered the Israelites from slavery and given them manna to eat, they were not grateful.
They chose not to focus on what they had, but on what they did not have. They should have focused on the fact that they had food in the desert, and not on eating only one particular meal.
The moment we are grateful and content, all we will spread will be hope and joy. Joshua and caleb focused on what theybhad, and hence spread a message of hope and peace to the Israelite, but the other 10 spies focused on what they did not have, and hence spread fear and sorrow.
That is the power of focus. Let's change what we focus on, and we will change what we spread to others.

Beyond seizing an available opportunity where possible, our sense of embracing others’ achievements helps to expand our own willpower

Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.
Its not a matter of what you have or don't have, but what you have chosen to be content with.
Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored.
Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain... To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices - today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.

I want to point out a very neglected but most impactful way to appreciate someone.
Nothing says "I appreciate you" more than an investment of your time, especially because everyone knows how busy you are. I was blessed with an incredible mentor and boss during many of my years in corporate. Lisa made certain to spend time with me in and outside of the office on a regular basis. Knowing how much she believed in me inspired me to be at my best at all times. The tangible gifts I received from other peers and bosses are long forgotten, but Sharon's gift of time will forever be remembered and valued. Think about what's most important to others and invest a bit of yourself to make it happen.

There is an old idiom in Nigeria (and maybe elsewhere, I dunno haha):
Heaven is a gigantic dining room festooned with every delicious food imaginable with everybody seated around that table. Everyone has ridiculously long spoons.
Hell is exactly the same.
The only difference? In Hell, the people struggle and fight and put out each other's eyes struggling to feed themselves with the over-long spoons. In Heaven, they feed each other and everyone eats.
Therefore, if I can add to that other old saying, Hell is Other People ... and so is Heaven.

There are many blessings that come from being grateful for the good things we enjoy

I have learnt to express my gratitude for what is too often taken for granted. We may sometimes take what others do a bit too much for granted. Like the food they cook, how they keep doing their job consistently each and every day or how to they are there to listen when we need it.
No doubt, whoever touched you so deeply did not go out of their way just to get a reward. They gave selflessly. So when we communicate back to them, we must do so with respect and class worthy of their deed and generosity. I really had some take home from this. I was inspired more and that scripture was the crowning. Thank you so much @gavvet foe touching my life here. I am having a new mindset day by day. Keep doing what you are doing. I am a huge partucipant of #lighttheworld. I was never a giver, but after reading and following your post i had a new approach to the essence of this season. God bless all your effort.
Beautiful. I really love these series. It helps me express my mindset and to envourage people to get involved.
Choosing intentionally to help others flips life upside-down. In helping others rather then seeking our own gain, we find great freedom. Service to others results in liberty. We are able to say no to modern culture‘s games of promotion and authority. We live lives of less stress, less anxiety, and less frustration. We begin to feel more fulfilled, more complete, more alive. Living for others completely abolishes our need for a pecking order. It becomes a great weight off our shoulders when we no longer seek power and mastery over others. Real joy is found not in being served, but in choosing to serve.
The thing about this #lighttheworld is that it encourages reaching out to people around us. People who need our help exist all around us—in our home, our neighborhood, and our work place. The first, most important step is to simply notice them.
Even if you don‘t have all the answers or facts, jump in and help as best you know how. Refuse to use the excuse, “But I don‘t know what to do” or “I can help tomorrow.” Assess their need, offer some help, and follow through right away.
I have learnt that Service to others always costs something—sometimes money, sometimes time, sometimes reputation, and almost always energy. See the price. Pay it anyway, even after paying the noble prize, remove the what’s-in-it-for-me question that motivates so many people today. Help with no expectation of repayment. And you will be repaid with joy and fulfillment in countless other ways and also from the Most High himself as seen in the scripture.

Ingratitude is an integral part of society. If you ask most people if they are ungrateful, they will probably reply, “Of course not!” However, this attitude is so ingrained in their lives, they cannot openly admit—or even realize—that they are ungrateful.
Even in the bible, examples were made. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And He said unto him, Arise, go your way: your faith has made you whole” (Luke 17:12-19).
So full happiness and wholeness comes from being grateful and appreciating others and including ourselves. We atimes forget to celebrate with others not knowing that rejoicing with others creates an opportunity to multiply the good times you get to celebrate. By seizing every chance to sincerely congratulate other’s on their success, you are creating an atmosphere for others to be willing to celebrate your successes. Thank you so much for #lighttheworld

It's really an honor to take part in today's topic of being grateful for what we have.
I believe the person who deserves our Thanksgiving the most, and to whom we have given little is God himself. A lot of times we focus on the things we think He has not done, forgetting all the things He has done.
You’ve heard the hymn “Count Your Blessings” . But did you know that literally counting your blessings increases your emotional health?
Researchers had one group of students write for 20 minutes each day about things they were grateful for, a second about things they were angry about, and a third about random topics like the color of their shoes. Guess which group was happiest at the end of the experiment? The ones who wrote about things they were grateful for of course!
Even more interesting is that those who wrote about the things they were grateful for were less likely to be sick throughout the semester.
God has done somuch than we can enumerate. It's to our own benefit to be grateful to God for all He has done. Take time to remember what God has done in your life, and then write them down. It will help you cultivate a habit of Thanksgiving.

Something amazing about being grateful is that it’s in our control. We might not be able to make the varsity team or be elected student body president. We might not get asked out on dates or have the biggest muscles . But we can control whether we have a grateful attitude.

Coming back from mission I realized that we place our emotional stability in things that are not stable at all. For me, it was my friends, if a friend was there for me and we were doing things together then I was on top of the world, but if a friend lets me down I would be really bleak about life.
If we truly put our efforts into making God pleased with us then we will never be disappointed again because he will never let us down. putting our trust in the arm of flesh, which includes ourselves, is always going to be a letdown.

Paul teaches us a lesson that helped him so much in life. He was satisfied with what he had. That's the secret to celebrating others success.
Another way to be happy with what you have is to make the maximum use of what you have.
Do what you can with what you have. If you want a new bed frame but can't afford it, simply look online at creative inexpensive ways to create your own. Sometimes all it takes is a creative mind and a positive attitude to realize that we have a lot more than we think we have.
Most importantly, when you wake up each morning, remind yourself of all the good things you have, and that God says you have. Tell yourself you are going to have a beautiful day and remind yourself of all that you have and you in fact will have a beautiful day everyday, which will in turn lead to a beautiful life.

Good job @gavvet. I sure have been following your posts for the last 2 weeks,and men, they have been mind blowing. It has all been centered around helping those around us, and helping make the world a better place. God bless you for your effort.
We sure can spread joy to those around us, the moment we have contentment. Focus on helping others. This act gives a warm feeling that money can't buy.
Take a look at the world around you. Help a family in need, or even take a walk around the closest city to you. Maybe this Christmas you can take an hour out of your day to donate your time to a local soup kitchen. Try holding the door for an elder, let a car cut in front of you in traffic, or even buy a coffee for the person behind you on line at the local coffee shop. Simple acts of kindness are proven to make us feel better about ourselves and those around us.
What you see will not only open your heart but it will also open your eyes and make you appreciate what you have.

Agree 100%. When I was young some people were saying that happiness is about giving and not receiving. Because of my ego mind I just did not get it. Now my biggest happiness comes from playing whit my nephew and it is all about him. When I see him being full of live and happy, that also makes me happy.
