The Journey of a thousand miles start with a single step.
How many times have you complained about how much you weigh? Or how you no longer seem to fit into those cute dresses and your best trousers?
When was the last time you honestly looked yourself in the mirror and loved every inch of what you see?
You see, most of us know deep down that we can have better bodies than what we have now...We know that we can be at our best because we have been there before!
But what gets us to the point of self-hate and self-criticism because of how we look?
The problem is that we stopped paying attention to what we eat. We mindlessly swallow food without stopping to question their nutritional value. We go for foods that taste good despite them being empty calories. And nowadays, healthy food such as githeri, beans, sukuma wiki is viewed as 'poor people' food. You only eat healthy when you are broke!
Also, we have slowed down our physical activity levels in the name of convenience. We don't have to walk because we have a car. We don't have to go out shopping because we have a delivery system. We don't have to climb the stairs because we have the lifts. Even if you have a farm in the rural area, you don't have to till the land because we have tractors for that!
According to data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 2013–2014;
More than 1 in 3 adults were considered to be overweight.
About 1 in 13 adults were considered to have extreme obesity.
We need to take charge of our lives by investing in our body. And it starts by eat right and making fitness part of your lifestyle.
You do not have to go to the gym to adopt fitness as a lifestyle. You can workout from your house, your compound, the park e.t.c. You can use your body-weight to do various exercises such as Squats, jumping jacks, sit ups and much more!
The best way to ensure that you get started and keep on track is by finding an accountability partner. Having someone to wake up and workout with makes the routine more fun and not monotonous. Having a partner will also push you to show up when you do not feel like and also do extra exercises because there is a friend next to you and you are in this together.
If you weigh more than 100kgs and want to lose 30kgs, the task might look impossible or a hard sell. but all you need to do is take that one single step. If executed consistently, you will definitely see some results!
All you need to do is get started by choosing the one thing you can change, however simple it seems. Just get started!
