These old living quarters in Chicago are rather fascinating.
This apartment building on Greenleaf Ave captures your attention when you walk past. There was an open house and it was fun to look more closely at this 90 year old 'castle' !
The courtyard was lovely, and I was imaging that these must have been pretty classy apartments in 1927 when this building was new.
But it was the art deco pool that I loved best!
Never mind all the signs warning of lead hazards all around in the building!

Lead? Yikes!
I love the pool too :)
I guess I would be surprised at any old building that did not have lead in it!
I wonder... is all the old lead base paint?
I think there is a good chance that most all paint used before the 70s was lead based. We grew up surrounded by it!
That's in Chicago? Intersting. Not sure what I feel about the building in itself though. Having seen lots of castles here in Ireland and the rest of Europe, this just seems odd. Modern-ish in castle style. A bit strange hehe. But the pool! Yes, I love that one. Very nice.
Lead warnings? LOL. That's pretty bad...

When you live in a country that is not old enough to have real castles I guess you have to make do! 😀
That's true :) I don't even think they'd be able to build castles the way they were. Those builders had some skills...
This building was probably built with these features to give it a more distinctive look! I doubt if it even comes close to a real castle!
Yes, I'm sure it was built like that for that reason. It was very much about seen and be seen in that time, wasn't it? And status... The building itself had me think of Great Expectations...not sure why.
Thanks, dear Pix!

BEER
.Hey @melinda010100, here is a little bit of
BEER
for you. Enjoy it!Love the pool too. 90 years... I find it interesting that someone was building a castle just 90 years ago! Very modern.
I think the design was chosen to give the building some distinction and make it feel solid and permanent!
It's certainly different! : )

Aha you went to the Chicago open house. I heard someone mention it last week then I got sidetracked. Glad you showed this interesting place.

I have a few more places to share! Nothing that could convince me to move, though! 😊
Still classy looking.. Don't and can't make buildings like these anymore...
That's sure true!
I was going to say it still looks classy....
..... then I saw the lead warning. Probably any place that old will have some lead I'm thinking.
I think you are right. I would want to know that the lead pipes for the water supply had been replaced, but Since I'm not into eating paint chips, I don't think I would be concerned about the paint.
Interior decoration is very nice .evergreen and beautiful all photography.
Thanks, @shuvo35! I'm glad you liked it!
Living here is just a day dream of me and far beyond realization. I am just happy you belong there and enough for me to be happy for you @melinda010100.
I only visited there. I still live in my house in the woods.
The place looks very idyllic, and has a old world charm.
It is charming, (but not very handicap accessible!)
I guess buildings of old were not equipped for that.
The doorways were too narrow for wheelchairs. I can't begin to imagine how awful it must have been. When my daughter-in-law first moved here she was shocked at how many handicapped people we have here. Then she realized that at home in Russia they were not able to be as mobile as they are here. They had just as many, but they were stuck in their homes.
Yes, because of the lack of infrastructure for wheelchair users, people with mobility problem tend to stay home, and therefore, are less visible.
I love old vintage.
I do too!
Great picture. I used to live in one of those on Western and Touhy 😊
Did you? Was it a good experience?
It was ok. The buildings are very old and some apartments were infested with roaches and mice. I only lived there for a year 😊
Ewwww.
WoW...Definitely classy for it's time i love the design of all them little tiles in the swimming pool area that would of taken some hours to do 👍
I can't imagine doing all that tile work! It would be a costly project today.
Oh definitely a costly one indeed 🙀
Nice Vintage Chicago living photography.
Thanks so much!
Hello Beautiful
how beautiful the gardens to walk calmly.
but the pool so romantic and of other times invites you to dive into its waters
happy beautiful day
Thanks, my friend! It's always good to hear from you! ❤️
Like everybody I like the pool too, but the lead warning should not be underestimated.
The green yard looks very nice too.
Wow! That is pretty classy. You can really see the quality of the place and the 20's styling is instantly noticeable. I think that period is my favorite for period furnishing and industrial (product) design. Impressive mosaic for the swimming pool, too!
Pretty inexpensive for where it is at. Under $100,000 for a fairly large one bedroom.
