A nice post @adamsays, I am also a musician/producer but i have not actually studied an instrument extensively or learn how to sight read. Most of the time i go with the flow of creating something but i believe it is still important to hone certain skills so that you can express what you want, weather be it through music or anything creative. But from reading your post, it also showed how discipline comes along with the orchestra way of life, which I believe is important for all types of creativity. Keep up the music!

Once a friend told me that musical talent is like a rough diamond, if you want to refine it, you must learn theory! Discipline is in the same equation to success.
I would also love to be a producer, do you have by any chance a post talking about your experience as a producer? i'd love to read it.
