“When [my friends] will hear what my profession is, many people will say” Wow, dude. ” You will receive a marijuana breeding diploma, “said Alex Roth, a 19-year-old student.
“But it’s not easy at all,” he says.
Students from the University of Michigan will now officially be able to graduate from marijuana studies.
Technically, the program is called “Medical Plant Chemistry”, and it combines chemistry, biology, botany, horticulture, marketing and finance in one course. There are even specialized entrepreneurial and bioanalytical lessons for students who want to focus on the business or scientific aspects of the diploma (marijuana degree).
While cannabis is the focus of the program, due to the growing demand for chemists, entrepreneurs and horticulture experts will join the marijuana industry in the country, but students will not use or nurture it.
“No one cultivates marijuana. No one violates state or federal laws“ said University Board member Steve Mitchell. “But there are many plants that can be studied.”
Knowing these plants can help students one day work with curative marijuana to treat various diseases from cancer to anxiety disorders.
Dr. Mark Paulsen, director of the university’s chemical department, said the program is on the rise. “We get new students every week,” he said, expecting their numbers to grow in the future.
