in #life7 years ago

A year ago, Versova Beach in India was considered one of the most polluted beaches in the world. But thanks to the efforts of the inhabitants, this one has regained its immaculate aspect of yesteryear, released from the 5,000 tons of waste that covered it. It is a small miracle that opened in Bombai in India.

Thanks to a collective effort, the beach of Versova, stumbling for a most polluted experience of the planet, has literally metamorphosed. Situated to the west of the city, this 2.5 kilometer beach was still there and a litter of rubbish, some clusters to reach 1.5 meters high. Deploring to see the site so stained, Afroz Shah, a 33-year-old lawyer residing in Versova had launched a first clean-up initiative in 2015, quickly followed by others. In 2016, the "Verso Resident Volunteers" of residents, politicians, movie stars, schoolchildren and retransmissions each weekend to pick up hundreds of rubbish.

In 21 months, the volunteers will have cleared no less than 5.3 million kilograms of litter and have also refurbished 52 public toilets and planted 50 coconut trees. "I said to myself that I was going to do something." Hailed by the United Nations, Afroz Shah, the lawyer behind this magnificent venture, was awarded the " Earth ". "I moved into my new apartment two years ago and I saw the plastic on the beach, measuring 1.5 meters high, a man apart," he told CNN. Told me that I was going to go to the field and do something, "he said, adding that the initiative went far beyond his expectations. Immaculate and a deep blue water as evidenced by a photo posted on Twitter by the lawyer. "The beach of Versova is splendid and clean now," he commented, "We did our part. We must now preserve it ".
