Thank you for reacting! Do you really believe true freedom doesn't exist? Look, in principle I agree, my words in the first paragraph were "Individual freedom and independence are economic lies..." But I made sure to say individual freedom and to link it to the economy: in this world we only are as free as our pocketbook permits. In that sense, no there is no true freedom for you and me.
Also, you're never free as an individual. A hermit isn't free in the sense you and I perceive freedom: he's shackled to his cave or hut and the little garden he planted for himself, he's surely the opposite of free. But would the hermit agree?
And if you're not a hermit, as soon as you live among other people, you are only as free as the community of people permits you to be in a way decided upon by that community. Rules and laws, the tribe's Medicine Man, your upbringing: they all make you free or not depending on circumstances.
The way I see it, true freedom does exist, but not individual freedom because all freedoms take shape in the community of people you are an integral part of. If your understanding of freedom is to be able to do what you want, where you want, when you want, with who you want I'm afraid you're right. But is that freedom? I think in a real world with real people who really depend upon each other, that's just a sure way to get expelled.
And not letting yourself to be told what to do or what to think, by TV, government, me or anyone else is one of the freedoms you can really choose to use ;-)
Just my two cents :-)
Thanks again for the comment, it's really appreciated!
I try to be free as much as possible. To me this means I live most of the time in the middle of nowhere. I have my own waterwell and place. I can do without luxury (what you own you need to take care of as well), I do not watch tv, I am surrounded by nature and less people (they cause me stress) and stay away of gossiping, society etc as much as possible. To do.what I like when I like it, is a kind of freedom. You gave me a lot to think over. Thanks!
