Children aren’t meant to do physical labour against their own will. Their bodies resist, their hearts start breaking when it becomes more and more clear to them that they’re not worth anything, only their labour is. Children know when they are used, when nothing they do is ever appreciated, and being forced to work only to not be a burden feels like torture because they still care a lot, they still need to be cared about, they need to know that their minds and hearts and feelings mean something, that someone cares at the end of the day if they’re okay, if something hurts, if they need a hug, a conversation, or a reassurance that nobody hates them and thinks they’re useless.
