Songs I wrote & what inspired them

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone I'm back,

For this post I thought I would share with you all some of the music that I have written and published online and what inspired the lyrics of these songs, hope you enjoy!

RUN & HIDE

This song was inspired by a falling out I had with an old friend. The lyrics reflect the emotions of someone who is sick of hearing the same regurgitated lies and the song is basically an outcry of outrage. I first performed this song with my old band Lipstuck, but the rendition linked above is my own solo version of the song. This is the first song I wrote that I was actually proud of and proved to be a favourite by those who listened to Lipstuck perform live.

CONTROL

I had a tendency to fall in love/lust very easily in my later teenage years and this song is about falling in love with someone who was already taken. The whole song follows the narrator trying to gain 'control' over her feelings for this person and basically just the whole denial that there is anything going on between the two of them. 'Gotta take a step back or take a risk and fall' reflects the notion of damned if you do, damned if you don't.

This was the first song I ever recorded and produced by myself and is still today one of my favourite songs that I have ever written.

SOLDIERS

I wrote this song as an anthem for the war heroes who survived ANZAC day. I performed it on ANZAC day 2015 and that still to this day remains to be one of the most profound performances I've ever done. Lest We Forget.

DREAM-LIKE STATE

This song is kind of a weird one in that the message is very difficult to decode. The song basically follows the narrator who is uneasy about growing up and what the next chapter of their lives has in store for them. As you may have guessed, this one is written from personal experience.

AMSTERDAM

I also wrote this song from personal experience after I went overseas earlier this year and visited Amsterdam. The song has a lot of innuendo's about 'exploring what Amsterdam is well-known for.' A lot of the references in this song are actually accurate to my own experience in Amsterdam. This song was the first that I had written in a long time that I was actually happy with the end result.

HOUSES

This song, as I mention in the video above, is literally about the irritation of living in a noisy house. The narrator sings of dreams of driving away to be at another house with her love and reflects on how this love is sometimes her only saving grace from the chaos of a busy street/life.

TOUGH

This is another song, like many of the songs I write, that is based on personal experience. As an individual who struggles with mental illness this song reflects on the battles I have with my brain on the daily and how much mental stress they cause. The song basically resolves that because I'm 'tough' one day I will be able to get through the day-to-day with ease.

And there you have it! Those are all the songs I've put on my YouTube channel so far. If you like the songs, please subscribe because it would be great to build my network online and expand the YouTube family :)

Love, Izzy
