We live in a world where discontentment is the norm as we are always seeking more than we have, never being satisfied with our current results. This is best explained in the law of success as quoted “From birth until death the mind is always reaching out for that which it does not possess”. Since we were children this has been the case as we always wanted to play with toy the other child had. The common phrase “the grass always greener on the other side” illustrates the fact that our happiness tends to be the anticipation of an unrealized goal. This can be a good thing as it forces us move towards a vision keeping us happy in the process as stated, “Where there is no vision the people perish”.
Sowing and reaping
Understanding that what we tell our minds everyday and the actions that follow shape our reality, we no longer apprehend or become unanticipated about the results to manifest in our lives. The principle of sowing and reaping gives us control as to what results will show up in our lives, hence allowing us to get the results we want. This law applies to every aspect of our lives whether it be getting the body you want, building a business or meeting the person of your dreams. Here are 5 ways to master this principle to put you in the driver seat of your life.
Realise your life is a reflection of your seed – It is easy to compare your life to the people you are inspired by and question why their lives are so much different to yours. The perfect bodies, big homes, flash cars, luxury holidays, and expensive clothes we see on social media are examples of the things we see influential people own and ask why we do not possess these things. The question should be, “Am I working as hard as they do?” or “What can I do now to allow me to have that lifestyle?” When our perception changes to this point of view we realize the outcomes we have are nothing but a reflection of our daily thoughts and actions, our seeds.
Be seed minded and not need minded – Acknowledging that our life is a mirror of our contribution, the idea of become seeded minded instead of need minded is a clear advantage. Today it is easy to become need minded due to the constant dreams being sold that success is a click of a finger a way which encourages a culture of entitlement. It is one thing to expect the best out of life but another to assume it is attained by default. The book Think and Grow Rich perfectly formulates a clear method to become seed minded. This is described in step 2 of the 6 practical steps to realize a desire and is stated, “Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire”. Although this is in regards to financial achievement, the essence of it which can be applied to anything is the fact there must be something you intend to give (your seed) in return for the results you wish life to return to you.
Be conscious of your seeds – Now that you have embraced a seed mentality and ready to sow you must be sure to pick the right seeds. Thoughts are the predominant causes of circumstances as stated in the book The Master Key System, “Mind is creative, and conditions, environment and all experiences in life are the result or habitual or predominant mental attitude”. As our thoughts are lead to actions and actions lead to results, it is vitally important to set goals in order that our minds are given direction. Ensure your goals are specific instead of being vague in order that you arrive at your desired location as stated in the book The Science Of Getting Rich, “A clear mental picture you must have continually in mind as the sailor has in mind the port to which he is sailing the ship”.
Back up your sowing with action – What sunlight is to a planted seed, action is to thought. Ideas without acting on them become wasted potential as stated “Faith without deeds is dead”. Turning your ideas into tangible goals whether they are monthly, weekly or daily provides a route for physical action to take place and the realization of the idea in mind. Thought and action work simultaneously to manifest what you want as stated in the book The Science of getting Rich, “By thought, the thing you want is brought to you; by action you receive it.”
Keeping sowing – Once you know what you want, the key to master the law of sowing and reaping is to put the odds in your favour. This is done by acknowledging the fact that every seed sown will not always provide a harvest. The parable of the sower best illustrates this as it describes a farmer planting seeds. Some were eaten by birds, some fell on shallow ground and others did not grow fully as they were suffocated by thorns. Only a minority actually fell on good ground and produced a harvest. This exemplifies the fact that most of the time the thing we intended may not show up straight away but if we keep the idea in mind and supplement it with continuous action it must manifest. Understanding that we will not always yield a crop from every seed planted is similar to the risk and reward approach to investing supported by Tony Robbins in his book Unshakeable. By only risking a small amount for a large profit, multiple investments can be made. In the case of risking 1 to get 5, you could be wrong 4 times and still come out on top. This is comparable to the farmer who sowed many seeds but only yielded a crop from just a few. By taking this approach to life you reap the benefits of the law of averages as continuous, unyielding effort will eventually result in a harvest.
