MEMORY AFFECTIONS
“Photo-speaks”, “memory-lane” are few instances in brochures of funeral that attempt to commit memory to scripts and transmit same to others. These are subtle ways of expressing the invaluable nature of memory. Without memory we cannot make sense of life. Memory is not just the store room of the past, its door opens up the present with a window to a beautiful future. That the fragility of the human mind does not ashen our store of treasures, memories are framed and transported in pictures, stories, imageries and songs or whatever can hold a glimpse of the past. But when the viewing mind cannot connect these images to an event, then they become mere pictures and frames. For this reason, memory is not merely an archive of irretrievable occurrences, but a past that lives with us in our very present.
Because memories are alive, they have the power to sometimes bring joy, laughter, pains, regrets or regenerate experiences of sad demeanor. Unfortunately, they are only alive in an intangible way and denies us the privilege of substantially harking back in time. But the person is not totally helpless, s/he has the discretion to maintain control over the waves of memories that flood the mind.
Aware of this liberty, in all these years, I have elected and so has it been that my mind is peopled by God and folks like you, family and friends, living and yonder. A recall of You is an affection with the effect of an ejaculatory ecstasy; and treasuring such with thanks makes you the prize of my remembering. You are my memoir and I hope to have you in mind as long as possible. Let me love and thank you while I can do so with the strength and youth of this age, since my twenty-seven comes only but once!
