I believe that smartphones have come to serve the same function as alcohol: disconnection from reality and being fully present in the world.

Secondly, it seems to me that Western society has become addicted to stimulation and entertainment. I have noticed that people immediately go for their phones as soon as they find themselves without a task or activity of some sort.
