My father made me learn how to type when I was in grade 3 or 4 on a DOS based typing program in the early 90's. By the time other students started learning how to type at school, I was probably already typing at 60-65 wpm. It's one of the skills you sort of take for granted after you've been able to type at lightning speeds for over 25 years. You are absolutely right, and it's really amazing to think about how much time I've saved being able to type fast.
