What you should know about medical checkup

A general health check-up with your doctor allows your doctor take some routine medical tests on you. This allows them detect any issues that may be affecting your health or has the potential of giving you medical issues soon or in the nearest future. Early detection of these issues could mean a lot in treating or preventing them. a typical checkup may include asking questions about your family history, a blood pressure check, an eye check, ear check, dental checkup, cholesterol check, blood sugar level check, breast and prostate cancer screening, a chest x-ray (if you are a heavy smoker), e.t.c.

Importance of Regular Medical Checkup

#1: It Could help reduce Cost of Healthcare

Today, the overwhelming huge bill of doctors is sufficient to keep us away from having our health regularly checked. However, regular medical checkup could help you save a whole lot of money in the long run. This is because it helps you reduce the risk of surgery or any other serious medical care in the future as well reduces the risk of potential health ailments that could be life-threatening.

#2: Prevention is better than Cure

Just as the old saying that “Prevention is better than cure”, a regular check is a cheap way of preventing serious health issues around the corner. It helps doctors diagnose potentially serious health issue early enough when it could still be easily treated or prevented before such issue becomes a serious medical problem. During this time as well, your doctor will be able to give you useful medical advice and tells you some potential signs and symptoms to watch out for.

#3: Stress-Related Problems

It’s been discovered that many of the medical issues we encounter today are directly related to our stress levels as increased stress levels have the potential to cause series of severe mental and physical problems like obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, mental disorders, e.t.c. All these can be diagnosed early in a medical checkup before they result in a serious and severe health problem. A checkup also helps you get appropriate medical advice needed to rightly manage and combat stress-related illnesses.

#4: Lifestyle and Family History

Indeed, you may be trying everything you could to make sure you live healthily, but at the same time, you may not be able to totally rule out the role your genes and your environment play in ensuring that. Environmental factors such as pollution and exposure to certain diseases may look like obvious factors, but regardless of your lifestyle, your family history is also another thing to consider in the bid to make sure you stay healthy. These, amongst many other things, are what your doctor looks out for during checkups.

#5: Get It for Your Loved Ones and Yourself

Take charge of your health today and let your body thank you latter for that. Your health is surely everything to you as it has the potential to ruin not only your day-to-day life but could also go as far as affecting your happiness and that of your loved ones. So, it is a wise decision to consider yourself and your loved ones by getting a regular check on your health.

Thanks for the post‏

Before two months,I was very careless about these things and always I was like " I am fine" but then I visited dentist for the first time in my life and I am sure no one would like to hear what happened to me there. Now I regret why didn't I go for the check up first. I could have saved my teeth and had them in good condition.

Information that is very useful for our health all of them, Thank you for sharing a very interesting article.

Yes, check-ups are important. For the longest time, I was avoiding doctors because I felt they were more on the fear-side and pushing for treatment when it was not needed. I guess that's true for certain things, but it's good to know if your cholesterol or blood pressure is high so you can something about it.

Going to the dentist is really important. Thought I would never get a cavity, but they found one and nope, they don't go away on their own unfortunately. So good thing I went and got it patched up. Taking better care of my teeth because of it!

I, who is speaking from my own personal experiences of nearly being killed by the Mainstream Medical profession and ill trained highly ignorant Doctor's; I would have to have a broken bone and I still would be drug-in kicking and screaming, or unconsciencious to be examined by a Big Pharma. AMA Brainwashed Mainstream trained physician.
YOU can Save yourself, I did. I recommend people ONLY go see a Naturapathic N.D or a Functional intergrative M.D.

And more over become self educated and learn how to treat Malidies Holistically.
Thank you for allowing me to shine another light in an often times DARKER corner of our Pay to Play Medical Systems.

I agree whole heartedly with this write up. The two major issue preventing people from seeking regular check up are lack of finance and time. Good write up.

my parents always told me prevention is better than cure and if you can do that then you can save yourself a lot of trouble

Yes. prevention is better than cure.

Yes. money cant buy health.

very good post

An a apple a day , Keeps the doctor away ;)

Excellent points made.
It is foreseen that in years to come everyone will be monitoring thier own health.
I am a transcriptionist and i know for a fact that there is massive US and UK /European reasearch going on into "wearables" that are able to transmit data to a patient's /person's records daily and inform medical professionals of any possible issue, so it can be addressed before its a high risk. There's a way to go but it's on its way.

As a matter of fact, I am fully guilty of this, i can't remember if i have ever had any such check up. On the other hand, it's not just about the raising cost of Medicare, over here in Nigeria, it is simply not our culture. Thank you for this article, it is a good reminder and an eye open.

Majority of deaths caused by health issues could be traced back to lask of medical check-up.
Health as they say is wealth, and the need for regular health check up is super important.
Thanks for this great piece @steemhealthcare

Very true. Preventive healthcare is one of the best things a person can do for themselves. This sometimes includes all kinds of very unpleasant-sounding tests and checkups (all depending on your age, gender, risk group, and general condition), but it's still better than the alternative, of not finding out that you have something until it's already too late. Preventive medicine doesn't work 100% of the time (I have always gone to check-ups, and it appears that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis that wasn't diagnosed for 17 years despite those checkups), but it usually helps keeping an eye on things.
Great post :-)

you have the whole reason, it is better to prevent than to regret, mostly you should go to the doctor constantly but sometimes we think that only sick people do, but it is wrong to think so, sometimes a query can save a life
