This is a Tutorial explaining how to change all your keys
Why would you need to do this?
This is useful if you needed to change your keys in the event you fear that someone may have access to your existing keys. It can only be performed if you have the master key to your account. This is why it is important to never use your master key and keep it in a place that is safe from fire or disaster. Your master key can be stored on paper. This is essentially a "Paper Wallet". When you don't use your master key and store it off line, it can never get stolen.
Let's use an example:
Jane crypto blogs regularly on Steemit. Jane accidentally followed a link to a phishing site that appears to be Steemit. That site prompts her to enter her Master, Active, or Posting key. Jane knows to never use her master key but does not verify the address of the site is correct. She enters her posting key and now someone has Jane's posting key. Jane then discovers that her account is spamming hundreds of other accounts. Jane realizes what she has done. She then uses this tutorial to change all of her keys using her master key. Now the posting key that she accidentally gave away is no longer a functional key. Now Jane has complete control of here account again.
Let's use an example where Jane lost her active key:
Jane accidentally gave up her active key, but still has her master key. Her STEEM and SBD is at risk of being stolen. Luckily, Jane stored her STEEM in the form of SP (STEEM POWER). Since it takes 13 weeks to fully convert back to STEEM and 1 week before the first payment of STEEM, Jane has a plenty of time to use her master key to change all of her keys rendering the old active key useless. Because Jane stored her STEEM in the form of SP and keeps her Master Key off line, her currency is safe.
Now what if Jane simply lost her Posting or Active key?
Jane keeps her posting and active keys on a USB thumb drive. She only uses the USB storage device to get her Active and Posting keys when she needs them. On the way home from her friend's apartment, Jane lost her USB storage device on the bus. When Jane realizes that she has lost a copy of her Posting and Active keys, she uses this tutorial to create new keys with the master key. Now the old keys are rendered useless. Jane was able to do this since she keeps a copies of her master key on a separate USB thumb drive as well as a paper copy in a safe deposit box.
Here is the Tutorial
