This has been coming for a while. I haven't been on top of my (content) game for a few weeks now, doing a lot of meta stuff instead of 'real' content, not liking it, and generally feeling like my head is elsewhere, off-Steem, while at the same time being distracted by all the things I want to or need to or think I should do here.
There's something about Steem that makes it so that we, Steemians, approach it like 'work' or something we shouldn't skip for a day, and that's also why this place is far from being 'like Facebook' which is more or less supporting your life, while Steem tends to become your life.
About 99.99% (this may or may not be a fact) of the content posted on Steem would never have had a place on Facebook or Instagram.
This is not me being negative, just stating something that is easy to observe around here, and something that is completely understandable: the time to mine STEEM is now, the time to shitpost and just have fun comes later. That also means that even though I have never forced myself to post daily, I do feel 'bad' if I only make 3 posts a week - That means there is some pressure or some expectation I have of myself about 'being active here'.
And I'm taking a break from Steeming that pressure I put on myself
The irony is, of course, I'm busy with doing some Steem stuff that I can't really write about, and that has been taking some of my attention away from Steem. On top of that there also may or may not have been booked a trip somewhere in the coming weeks that I want to enjoy without having to think about putting content on Steem.
So I'm off. Just for a bit. More than a week, less than a month.
And no, this doesn't mean I'm not going to upvote, leave a comment, or even post a picture of my activities now and then in the coming weeks. This just means I'm announcing a break so my expectations are gone and I'm just going to Steem like I would 'Facebook': passively and without quantity or quality targets to make.
Damnit, I was working so hard to get to that 10000 STEEM target ASAP. I guess it will have to wait for a bit.

I'm kind of on a break too, but mostly out of circumstances, because I haven't really found the time to post much while on a roadtrip. The whole roadtrip has taken me with it, but it is a refreshing change and I'm going to enjoy it to the fullest and only do a post if I feel like it. In any case I'm going to have bunch of material to post after the trip.

Hehe - I understand what you mean :-) I do want to contribute to the place but sometimes miss being 'just' a content maker... So yeah, maybe that's why I need the break right now. Sometimes I don't know how to balance 'doing stuff for the growth of Steem' versus just writing what I like to write :-)

I hear you. I usually post once a day through the week and take a break on the weekends. I get a little jittery when I have to miss a day through the week. I feel all guilty and not right :p Enjoy your time off to refresh and recharge!

I think you hit the nail on the head. Decent followers are really hard to come by on here so the idea that you might lose one by missing a day of posting is terrifying!

Yes, even if I plan to 'take it slow' or 'not care about not making certain unwritten targets', I still do. Taking a deliberate break feels at least better. I'll be sure to write down when I'm back how I experienced it :-) Take care @newageinv!

I used to to put a lot of pressure on myself too to post and comment and engage according to the rules that I made up. Taking a break really helped me to get some perspective and come back much more relaxed about it all.

That's the thing right? Taking care of yourself - it's so important :-) This is my first break in 1,5 years of daily 'Steeming' - cooling down will be hard, as I'm still replying to all the comments today hahahaha :D

I'm not sure I 100% agree with this. The time to mine STEEM is now, but with the low prices and like of faces I think it's also a good a time as any to not be spending a week on a post (like I have done in the past). Everyone has their own standard, but I think the overall quality has dropped a little in line with price/lack of engagement.
Anyway, enjoy your break and recharge those Steemy batteries :)

Yes, you're absolutely right. The quality has dropped. I'm more thinking at that moment where communities will be 'live' and we will mostly have fun and not feel like every post hast to be more than a few paragraphs of text. By then there will be blogging communities sharing life stories and such, I'm sure of it, but 90% of the users are not bloggers/writers.

A few weeks ago I made a similar post un Spanish. I have also felt that way, even though I have been less time here and I dont hace as muchas SP.
Now I post every other day and I feel better, there is less pressure and I enjoy Steem more.

You sound so much like me, it's hilarious! There have definitely been times when I have felt the same way and I had to take long breaks, that sometimes lasted more than a month!
But that's the thing about taking a break: You take it because you know you need it, not because you just want to. Whenever I get back after a long break and as soon as I put those fingers down on the keyboard, I start working like a total beast.
Btw, so glad that it's just a break and you're not leaving the platform entirely. Ever since I saw @surfermarly's post about leaving, I'm kinda always scared whenever people say they are "taking a break from Steemit" lol.
i know how you feel, I have taken a break too.. or at least changed my daily posting schedule to a more manageable couple times a week. I have been burning the candle at both ends for far too long.

This is exactly why I switched down my steem activity for a complete year... Making excuses two times saying that I was coming back... But never did.
As you said "while Steem tends to become your life.". It was mine for more than a year. And its was hard. Steem was my 'only' life. I was so much into it that I spent hours a day to read/post/comment until the day my head, as yours, was tired and I just started shit post because I was too tired to do other things. In fact, I was tired because of not being recognize as I was expecting from the community (and the whales) for my 'work' ...... I started shit post because I understood that this will no make any difference in the recognition / rewards I would got.
I put so much pressure as you probably did. Because I, because we are expecting too much. and at the end I had no more joy of spending time here...
When I discovered that I was pregnant, I decided to stop to steem to be totally stress free. So I stopped radically to steem even if sometime I wanted to share all the new knowledges I was gaining (about motherhood / pregnancy / education ).
Now, after one year break, I am more mature. I am not into steem as I was (even if I can feel the addiction coming back... and as soon as I feel it I quit steem to avoid being crazy about it again).
I have learn during the past year to avoid comparing myself to others and be happy with what I get. I have learn that I am allowed to 'shipost' as people would say on Steem just because this is a social media where I can, if I cant to use it as Facebook or Instagram. I have learn that quality is what you decide. And that people can bully you because you are not on the top at their eyes but at the end... what's the most important ? Doing stuff that will please others or you being happy ?
I choose to be happy :)
