Hi there, my son is a personal coach for more than 9 years now, and a very succesful one also if I may say so. Having some knowledge about this subject myself as well.
Want I want to say is this: Don't expect miracles by just taking these extra protein-shakes and doing exercises on a regular basis. You also have to speed up your metabolism. And you can do that by eating more times (6 or 7 = about every 2/2,5 hour) a day, but smaller portions.
And the meals-ratios should be: less carbs, more protein and a little fat. Fat is ok, the body needs that. Just not too much.
Eat chicken, red meat, nuts, kwark, eggs, bananas, veggies and drink water. I know it's maybe a lot, but at least 2 (preferable 3) liters a day. Drink green tea.
For extra exercises at home in the morning before even having breakfast I advise you squats (thighs biggest muscles burning lots of calories).
And in the gym don't forget ofcourse combining the muscular exercises with some cardio-training.
About the exercises just one thing. It's not the weight you're lifting or pushing. It's doing the exercises the right way which is the most important!!!
Am not saying I have all the wisdom, but I know by experience that not all gyms have a complete specialized team walking around.
Good luck!!
