Good post
lol you gotta give me a trigger warning for that one!
what a post..thanks at @shayne..this is one topic that is always delicate when discoursed. i remember my first gender psychology class i had( am a student of psychology here in Nigeria) it shifted from being a lecture to an argument class. your words
"... because in their culture the women were the ones who gathered the wood, and in their eyes these European men were behaving like women."
reminds me of a personal experience. i came to the tap to Fitch water,a young lady walked up to me and asked that i should please come and kill/chase out lizard for her and in my defense not go,i told her that i am also afraid of lizards. then came responds that surprised and made me laugh at the same time.."tofiaa,i buru Nwoke."..meaning ..(shame)you are not a man. then after,i said to my self, dose killing a poor lizard make me more manish(if there is a word like that.) so the concur to what you rightly pointed out, gender is both biologically and culturally defined. nice one sir..
Does that make me "masculine" if I think lizards are cool, and wouldn't kill one? :0
but seriously, who kills lizards???
and they're so skittish, they run away if you just look at them lol
makes them hard to catch ; w ;)
my drear..just to show you cultural aspect of gender...liked your comment, just followed.
Gender is Biology. Everything else is fantasy.
😂😂😂😂😂😎
Culture is fantasy?
Sorry to be unclear. Gender is synonymous with biological sex. Culture cannot change biology. Surgery and clothing cannot change gender. Even gene therapy, if anyone was ever insane enough to attempt it, cannot change gender.
I have the right to call Bruce Jenner "sir" if I want to. Actually, here in Canada, I don't anymore... Isn't that nice..
I'm going to make a whole post about this because it inspired some interesting thoughts. Hope you don't mind :D
Not at all! I'm sorry that I have no more votes for a couple days :)
No need to apologize. :)
It means a lot more than just that to many cultures. I respect the simplicity though! This was @thomasquinasftw maybe that's where I got confusing...
It's absolutely fucking retarded that something like gender has been so heavily politicized lately. I think we should stop taking these people seriously, even if there exist a hundred million genders, over 99% of the population can be represented well enough with 2, the rest of the made up genders don't warrant serious discussion
Nice
Selection of your topic win my heart
You make this(article) topic gorgeous
Keep it up buddy
Great post my friend! I genuinely laughed out loud at the nut and bolt picture lol
Interesting to think about more in depth. How we view gender is very impactful in how we treat eachother as well. Let's not forget that receivers or female "nuts" decide what bolts they are holding. Anyone who disagrees can screw off!
I find it hard to disagree with your analogy because I don't understand it lol
That's ok. I got you! Lol
Receivers of female "nuts"... decide what bolts they are holding?
So... nuts are the female gender... and by putting it in quotes, you're implying that it's actually the the male gender... so the female "nut" is actually a transgender male? and the receiver of the transgender male decides the bolt...?
Nah, I still don't get it lol
sorry :p
I think I'll stick to the KISS principle...
@shayne :) I honestly won't post my opinion because I don't want to feel like I got anyone upset .
I identify as an attack helicopter and am currently undergoing lubricant replacement therapy.
I actually identify as androgynous - though if a Tumblerite were to explain my gender identity, they'd probably say that I'm "gender-fluid".
There are a lot of dumb gender identities, then there's some that just are too specific for me lol.
Like, I understand the concept of "genderfluid" - I feel like one gender now, though I might feel like a different one later.
Though if I was to be asked if I considerex myself "male, female, both, or neither", I'd usually say either "neither" or "something between both and neither" - which I think is where the huge lexicon of genders comes from. People want to specifically say what their gender is.
Wheras I'm just over here like /indifferent shrug/ "I technically prefer the pronoun "they", but if you're either transphobic or a grammar nazi, female pronouns work fine lol". Because biologically, I'm female, though I'm also fine with (if not tickled by xD) male pronouns lol.
I actually got confused for a boy a lot as a kid, and was tickled to death by my "ability" to "change gender at will". I had an extestential identity crisis when I went through puberty and couldn't be whatever I wanted anymore lol.
I didn't know people could actually be androgynous, so I spent a long time being confused about if I was angry that I couldn't be a boy, or if I should be happy I'm a girl.
Then I found out there are other people like that?? That are like "neither/both", and I've felt way better about myself ever since ^-^)
Although the hyper-queer community on Tumblr did make me feel like I wasn't "trans enough" for a while, since my body type isn't easy to make look "not female" :v
sorry for the text wall omg
Thanks so much for sharing your views!!
I don't think that your identification violates my understanding of gender at all.
The main thing for me is that it must be a reflection of biological gender. When people say that their gender is a color... that's just stupid lol. I mean, I knew a guy who was obsessed with the color red. Everything he had was red or black or some combination thereof. That doesn't mean he is "redgender" or anything. It just means he really likes red lol
Interesting post, I think gender is a super interesting topic right now. I just wanted to mention one thing regarding your post, where you mentioned how Muslim countries deal with gender. I don't know if you're aware of this but currently in Iran if a homosexual couple wants to date publicly the only way they can do so is by one of them getting a sex change. It is encouraged and funded by the government because they have such an intolerance for gay people. Some people have said they are being very progressive by doing this but it's sad. If someone wanted to change genders it would be great but it's essentially forcing it by giving people a way to be with the ones they love. Theres a good documentary about it here:
Also regarding the vapogender stuff.... I think some people are confusing personality/moods and gender.
It is a war between genders and personalities.
