While all of my friends have gotten newer cars as they have received increased salaries, I have elected to keep my 2002 Infiniti G20 as it still runs like a champ. At nearly 160,000 miles my 2002 Infiniti G20, called “The G”, is still running strong.
My father purchased this car for me when I turned 15 years old so that I could practice driving in a smaller car as we only had an SUV and a minivan and he did not want me to practice in either of those.
It has not had many issues at all over the years. Here is a list of the issues that have occurred:
- Air conditioning sensor went bad and needed to be replaced - $300 (2012)
- Power steering hose had a leak and needed to be replaced - $400 (2013)
- Major Tune-up - $400 (2017)
- Rotors, brakes, spark plugs replacing - $400 (2017)
Over the years the screws connecting to the front bumper have torn the plastic on the bumper off, thus the bumper has been slipping recently, which doesn’t look very appealing and causes so odd noises when making sharp turns.
I had to get creative in order to re-attach the bumper.
What did I use to attach it? Zip Ties.
Not the most eye appealing, but nobody can see unless the hood is popped
And just like that the bumper is repaired and the car look as good as ever!
I hope to get another 100,000 miles out of "The G".
Free and easy repair job!
No shame in fixing up your car in creative ways. I've use a similar method to reattach the air dam of my 2001 Saturn SL1. The springs that normally hold the air dam together rusted and broke, so I used a large zip tie to keep it held together. So far, so good.
Good on you for sticking with the old car. Not paying car payments is great and not paying insanely high insurance payments is another plus.
My Saturn is at 250k+ miles and I plan on riding it til the wheels fall off. Then I'll just zip tie the wheels back on.
HAHA putting zip ties on the wheels might be a little risky!
I would love for my car to get up 250,000 miles!
My 2002 Accord is nearing 200k miles. No car payment is awesome.
You have some miles on that Accord!! Having no payment is the best! I think my sister is paying $300+ a month for her car payment... :/
Thats my kind of repair. My car is hanging together with odd salvaged bolts, some gaffa tape (seriously) and cable ties!
Gaffa tape!?! Well done sir!! Sometimes you have to get creative, right??
Gotta do what you gotta do!
I was rather proud of that one. I thought, no way is some pesky mechanic going to charge me afortune for some odd plastic thing under the body being a bit loose!
Absolutely, for something nobody ever sees..
He buys it for $10 and charges you $30 plus labor!
Perfect! You got this!

Followed you back!
I'm a simple man, I see an SR20, I upvote lol
