Does Your Learning/Language Difficulty Hold You Back On Steemit?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

I get very defensive over people who struggle with writing as you are probably aware by now. I always get my words wrong, it's always been a bit of a running joke.

But I'm getting better with modern technology, little exercises and software. My mum had learning difficulties and her writing is terrible. I always order her 'big shop' online so tell he to write down what she wants so she doesn't forget.

I swear we have our own language, I'm like a code breaker or something.

My mum was always called stupid growing up, by strangers and family members. She went to a special school and was bullied. I am no saint I was horrible to her growing up, as I was taught my mum was stupid.

Anyway she is not stupid she has difficulties in writing and absorbing information at times. A bit slow the in politically correct person may say.

She's had it tough but she got through and at 70 she lived through a different generation of school ground bullying.

Today it should be different and to the majority it is but knowing there is a huge amount of people in the UK that has literacy problems and around 10% of our population has dyslexia is certainly does bring to light that we should not just be highlighting these facts BUT we should be encouraging people to find a away around their difficulties.

@Aubreyfox mentioned the campaign Idris Elba is backing.

You can read that here.

This is what I'm talking about and as a steemit community its the perfect place to help people to get better with their literacy.

I have dyslexia, my mum has learning difficulties. 4 of my best friends have dyslexia and I dare say there's are worse than mine. But we all found out in college/uni and still went on to have professional careers.

Lets raise the roof on the support for literacy obstacles and share some common themes.

This is my problem:

I struggle to read as I skip words and lines.....and most things, including steemit, are written in a way that amalgamates the letters! For me I would prefer a cream background...but thats just me and a different font.

Your turn...have you a literacy or language problem you would like to share? Have you a story that could support others?

Sarah, great posts. Indeed not all of us are great writers or video bloggers. Like you, my mild dyslexia shows up in my writing and even my trading business. It has never stopped me from trying and ultimately succeeding. Upvoted followed and resteemed

Thank you my dear. There are a lot of dyslexics in business, and there are alot of theories about the dyslexic creativity that makes us good entrpreneurs. Glad you have done well for yourself!

No one is stupid. You just learn differently than others. Everyone has their own unique talents. Not everyone is cut out to be a great writer, but they make have other worthy talents, such as a famous chef, or an opera singer. The ones who are "stupid" are those who don't take the time to get to know someone before they attach a meanless label.

sara nice post i think that i am learner and not good writer just like you but we should keep effort to achievements am i right sara?

You are absolutely right my dear, use steemit as your learning platform.

Great post
