Gajoldoba barrage was built for irrigational purposes of the agricultural land of North Bengal. Foundation stone of this project was laid by Late Jyoti Basu, former Chief Minister of West Bengal, on 19th January, 1987. Now it becomes one of the important tourist as well as picnic spots of Dooars and Terai area of North Bengal. It is surrounded by the dense forests of Baikunthapur.
The area around Gajoldoba is a nice place that attract tourist. The reservoir, surrounded by the dense forests, invites a large collection of migratory birds, specially during the winter. The Gajoldoba barrage in itself is an attractive place to spend some leisurely time on the spur with a binocular. One can take a ride with family and friend, in the local fisherman’s boat in the river Teesta, The Baikunthapur forests is also home to a number of wildlife variety.
Actually Gajoldoba is a small village. There is no regular commercially available tourist accommodation or good resort.
A few budget tourist accommodations have started sprouting here and there. In near future, as Gajoldoba Mega Tourism Hub takes shape,
So what you think just go there and enjoy a picnic day.
