সোরিয়াসিস ত্বকের একটি প্রদাহজনিত রোগ যা সংক্রামক বা ছোঁয়াচে নয়। এটি একটি দীর্ঘমেয়াদি জটিল চর্মরোগ যা কখনোই সম্পূর্ণ সারে না। তবে নিয়মিত চিকিৎসা গ্রহণ করলে এই রোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণে থাকে। এই রোগ একটি সামাজিক ও অর্থনৈতিক বোঝা।
আমাদের দেশে ঠিক কত জন এই সোরিয়াসিস রোগে আক্রান্ত তার কোনো হিসাব বা সঠিক পরিসংখ্যান নেই। যে কোনো বয়সের নারী ও পুরুষ এই রোগে আক্রান্ত হতে পারেন। তবে ৩০ বছর বয়সের পরে এই রোগে আক্রান্ত হওয়ার ঝুঁকি বেশি থাকে।সাধারণত, মানুষের ত্বকের কোষ প্রতিনিয়ত মারা যায় এবং নতুন করে কোষ তৈরি হয়। সোরিয়াসিস রোগীদের ক্ষেত্রে এই মারা যাওয়া কোষের সংখ্যা ও বিস্তারের মাত্রা অস্বাভাবিক হয়ে উঠে। ত্বকের সবচেয়ে গভীর স্তর থেকে মৃত কেরাটিনোমাইটস উপরের স্তরে চলে আসতে সাধারণত ২৮ দিন সময় লাগে। কিন্তু সোরিয়াসিস এর ক্ষেত্রে এই সময় লাগে ৫ থেকে ৭ দিন।
