🌎 The 24 hour stopover travel blog! 🌎 - HOW I STAY FIT WHILE TRAVELING -

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Hi guys!

Today im not going to write about a destination, but how I keep fit while constantly traveling and what I find has worked best for me over the years. As a flight attendant keeping fit while traveling can be complicated sometimes due to not having a regular routine and timetables to be able to stick to, and not always being at home to be able to cook the foods your body needs to progress! Also the jet lag and difficulty in getting enough rest is a major challenge as anyone into fitness knows, this is one of the most important key points. Here is a list of tips that I follow to stay as fit as possible and look good on those beach destinations!

  1. Pack wisely, a shaker with protein powder inside and a packet of oats is easy to squeeze into your luggage and will be a good meal choice when you can't find a place to be able to get some healthy food or without enough source of protein in. Just add milk (Or water in case you can't find milk either) and that is a good breakfast to start the day. I also tend to pack other foods that require no cooking like protein bread and an avocado or a can of tuna. Or even take a Tupperware with a healthy meal already made from home, this will also save me some money from always eating out.

  2. If you cannot find a healthy option to eat, just skip the meal. Fasting is becoming more and more popular and has great benefits, I follow a intermittent fasting protocol by simply having my last meal early and delaying breakfast, this increases fat loss and increase natural production of human growth hormone!

  3. I research the hotel I am staying at and what equipment the gym has to offer, normally my trips are only 24 hours at the destination so I fit in only one workout. If I see the gym has limited equipment to do shoulders only for example the previous days I will workout other body parts at my regular gym and leave behind the body parts I can do at the hotel gym.

  4. If you feel too tired, I find its better to skip the workout or just do a session of cardio. As they say, go hard or go home! (Or in this case just stay in your hotel room!).

  5. I take melatonin which is a natural sleep aid pill on those days I need to rest before a long flight and its not my natural sleeping time, or to combat jet lag. While sleeping is when your body is recovering from workouts and is the time your body is building muscle mass and most efficiently burns fat, if we don't rest enough we will not see any progress for sure.

  6. Go for the buffets at hotel, but always try not to eat too much. When ordering off a menu an option may look healthy by the ingredients but when it arrives at your table you see its all deep-fried, covered in sauces and others that you want to avoid and a small portion of the protein source you were looking for. At the buffet you get what you see and its easier to reach protein targets!

  7. Staying hydrated is essential for progress, while flying drink plenty of water and avoid tea and coffee as these will contribute to more dehydration!

These would be the main steps I try to follow, feel free to comment below anything you would recommend!
