Spot on @richardingate. As John Lennon said, life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans. I have always found truth in that. Thanks very much for your comment and contribution.
This whole 'idea' (fact?) is why I am moving away from more effortful approaches towards a way of understanding life called the Three principles - I will be writing about that soon. If 'life is what happens to our plans' , as you so rightly say, it makes sense to still make plans but to hold them more lightly!
Really looking forward to reading your thoughts on this concept @richardingate. An effortful existance is a good way to describe the high overhead way of life we all seem to strive towards and suffer from simultaneously.
