Stuffed!

in #life2 years ago

Now that I've got a new flat lined up I've been starting to sift through the stuff I want to take out of storage to said flat.

I've basically got THREE 'waves' of storage from the last couple of years -

  • Firstly the stuff I stored when I moved to Portugal in the first place back in 2020.
  • Secondly the first wave of stuff I bought back from Portugal in August this year.
  • Thirdly the stuff I bought back from Portugal last week.

In rough order of importance the final wave of stuff is the most important, but there's some stuff I don't need imminently, while the second and third waves are stuff I could probably live without, especially the stuff I stored two years ago because I haven't used it for that long!

The annoying thing about moving is that I'm not 100% sure how long I'll be staying in said flat because my own house becomes available in 6 months (it's currently got tenants in it, on a contract until that time) and I don't know whether I'll take it back, and it hardly seems worth lugging what is either a van load or three car loads of stuff to my new place if I'm only there for 6 months.

So I'm going to leave about 70% of my stuff in storage (it's free for me!) - the bulk of that stuff being books and some free weights which I would like to have but can live without, also a lot of my tools, I'll just take the essentials with me....

Taking a little less with me, (nb not all of it!).

I'm finding sorting out stuff to be a little bit of a nightmare - somewhere along the line it all got a bit jumbled up and so I've got one tub, for example, with a combination of kitchen appliances and electrical cables in - and it all needs sorting in advance as I'd rather not take more stuff than necessary with me!

Something else I've had a nightmare with is computer cables - a desktop and a monitor look so easily manageable but when you lose a power cable to a monitor it's a real pain in the ass!

And I've got the joys of sorting out my winter clothes to come, which have all been packed away for several months, and probably want a refresher wash before I wear any of them!

All in all I'm feeling a bit oppressed by my stuff - possibly that's because it's all rammed into a tight space ATM and not very accessible, its only function seemingly being to provide something for me to trip over.

Maybe it'll all seem better once I actually have some more space?

Or maybe the best route forwards is to offload a little more of the damn stuff...?!?

If only I actually followed their advice…

Yeah I agree - minimalism is a great thing to THINK about!

I've probably mentioned before that I'm quite attached to my stuff, especially my musical instruments. I don't plan to move any time soon. It would be a major operation.

As long as you've got enough space to store it, not a problem!

I do for now :) Still ought to clear some stuff from the loft that's been there for years.
