So someone might have started a new temporary job recently (I know, ANOTHER ONE), and as part of some virtual introductions the other day some of that persons' colleagues introduced themselves as 'name, she/ her', two females, both she/ her and then one male who didn't bother with the gender pronouns, so neither did that particular person, and then all the other females gender IDd themselves too, meaning that particular person may have been struck with the uncomfortable feeling that the only two people who didn't feel it necessary to conform to the gender identifying ritual were, you got it, the two blokes, who may or may not (we'll never know) have identified as him/ he....
Anyway, that someone might have got to thinking that was interesting, and possibly because of the agenda being set by a lot of Gen Zrs, or millennials and probably being the only Gen X in the virtual room....

Hmmm......
And then it turns out that also during introductions like everyone else has done not only XYZ but also A-E and a whole host of other letters to build a list of that council role, this achievement, that campaign, this voluntary work, yada yada yada, and then that someone is like 'errrr I just work here'......
And then by the end of the first week that someone is getting chucked all the complex cases and swimmming in them and getting nowhere while Keano Dave is chucking 15 messages a day in the group whatsapp with this and that helpful advice....
And that someone may said quietly under their breath on more than one occasion - FFS it's just a job, get over it!
Or maybe it's not, maybe this is the brave new world of workin Gen Z land.
Until half of them go off on 4 months of mental health leave and the rest of them glad to have that certain someone onboard after all!
WHAT A WEEK, GAME ON!
Every sympathy.
It's a brave new world right?!?
Terrifying.
Modern workplace are evolving, I guess. Tbh, I find it fascinating; it is way more fun as one gets to learn a lot of new things. Introductions now come packaged with identities, backstorieis and a whole new vocabulary :)
Thr reality of who ends up handling the heavier tasks says a lot about how teams function beneath the surface. It almost feels like two worlds overlapping: one driven by expression and labels, the other by silent competence and getting things done. Watching thesee worlds interact is a one-in-all.
Brave New Gen-Z's world starting with monthly leaves 🥲.
Peace 🕊
I was reading a post by @bozz who picked up on intergenerational issues at work with the youngers, it's happening all over the place!
I don't get that gender stuff at work, but have encountered it at family and friend gatherings with the younger generation. I don't object as long as they don't if I get it wrong by accident. Attitudes to difference are changing.
It is important to them, I've started seeing it really out in the open the last maybe 5 years or so.
I think the backlash to it will die down and gender diversity will become the norm. May just take another 50 years!
I was listening to the Reith Lecture about the slavery abolitionists. Getting people to treat others decently is not always easy.
You have my sympathies, fucking woke wankers.
More and more every year!
